Fabulous Frosted French Toast

  4.5 – 27 reviews

This was the first pie I ever baked, and to make it my own, I combined the ingredients from various pie recipes I researched with my mother’s advice.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 35 mins
Servings: 6
Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 6 eggs
  2. 1 ½ cups skim milk
  3. 2 tablespoons white sugar
  4. 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  5. 1 (1 pound) loaf French bread, cut into 3/4 inch slices
  6. ¼ cup butter
  7. 1 (8 ounce) package fat-free cream cheese, softened
  8. 2 tablespoons white sugar
  9. 2 tablespoons fat-free sour cream
  10. 2 tablespoons frozen whipped topping, thawed

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and cinnamon. Melt one tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Dip a few bread slices into the egg mixture just to coat. Place in the hot skillet, and cook until golden on each side, about 4 minutes per side. Repeat with remaining slices of bread. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in the skillet before frying each batch of toast.
  2. While the toast is cooking, mix cream cheese, 2 tablespoons of sugar, sour cream, and whipped topping using an electric mixer or blender until smooth, yet firm.
  3. Place servings of warm French toast onto plates, and top with a generous dollop of the frosting.

This is amazing! I made this with whole milk instead of skim. I was out of cream cheese so We used syrup or just powdered sugar. They are very good without anything at all too!

I had never made French toast before and needed a basic recipe. I modified this by using cinnamon raisin toast. I also only used 1 teaspoon of sugar in the wash. I served it with fresh raspberries on top. It was delicious!!

I loved it! It made the bread nice and sweet. I only put syrup on top not big on powdered sugar 🙂

This is a great recipe. High fat/sugar but very good comfort food! Will definitely make this again.

I just used regular sandwich bread and it was amazing!

My hubby loved it!!! Delicious. I used full fat cream and brown sugars as it’s what I had and it still tasted great.

I cannot rate this high enough!! I used homemade blueberry sauce and plenty of the icing because I was only making four pieces of the French toast. But this is probably the best breakfast I have ever made. Boyfriend approved!

I made this because my kids like French toast although I have never really cared for it. Well, this was very easy and we all loved it! I’ll definitely make this again. I sprinkled the cinnamon on while cooking instead of mixing it in the batter but otherwise followed the recipe.

I made this with Cinnamon raisin bread. Used full fat sour cream & cream cheese, omitted the whipped topping and 2% milk. My boyfriend LOVED it!!! Soooo delicious!

Too much sugar for our taste. My family prefer the French Toasts with dill instead sugar, a kick of carry also works good. With the topping made from harring roe and some butter such toasts can be even a main dish.

Great recipe to add into my weekend breakfast repertoire. I made this recipe exactly as written but used the full fat version of all ingredients. We then topped it multiple different ways to see which ways we liked it served. My personal favorite was the simplest version- with powdered sugar sifted on top the french toast. The flavor of the cinnamon french toast is superb alone and the powdered sugar compliments it beautifully by adding just a touch of sweetness. My husband preferred his with both the cream/sour cream topping and powdered sugar sifted on top. We both disliked the version of adding pure maple syrup which was turned out way too sweet. Also our version adding fresh strawberries (or any fruit in season) was also a welcome twist on the flavor. Thanks for a great recipe. I can’t wait to try this recipe on guests.

Whenever I make french toast I leave the bread out overnight otherwise it comes out too “mushy.” Also it’s great with just powdered sugar over the top no syrup.. yummy

This was amazing!!! I did not make the frosting but the French toast was very good! I cut everything in half and it still turned out very good. I couldn’t find French toast so I used brownberry Dutch county butter split top bread. I made 4 actual pieces and I had some of the batter still left over. Prob enough left over for 2 more pieces…yay breakfast for tomorrow:)

Perfect. used sliced bread as I did not have french and added strawberries

Super easy, and the ‘frosting’ was SO yummy! We had friends over for breakfast and made these, they raved about the cream cheese topping. So good!

Mmmmmm….delicious! It’s great even without the cream cheese topping – my husband just used butter & powdered sugar, I had a bite of his and it was great! Best French Toast Ever!

Didn’t use the frosting but the toast was good. I halved the recipe for less servings and it worked great. In the future I will sprinkle the cinnamon over the bread while cooking through, it clumped up in the cool egg and milk mixture instead of mixing thoroughly even with a whisk.
