Prep Time: 25 mins
Cook Time: 40 mins
Total Time: 1 hr 5 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 1 8×12-inch casserole

Ingredients

  1. 5 slices bread, cubed
  2. 2 tablespoons butter
  3. ½ cup sliced fresh mushrooms
  4. ¼ cup diced onion
  5. ¼ cup diced green bell pepper
  6. ¼ cup chopped ham
  7. 7 eggs
  8. ½ cup 2% milk
  9. 2 teaspoons mustard
  10. 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  11. ½ teaspoon salt
  12. ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  13. 1 dash hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®), or to taste
  14. 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend
  15. 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spread bread cubes in a 8×12-inch casserole dish.
  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add mushrooms, onion, and green pepper; cook and stir until starting to soften, about 5 minutes. Stir in ham until heated through, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat.
  3. Whisk eggs and milk together in a separate bowl; mix in mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and hot sauce. Stir in mushroom-ham mixture and cheeses. Pour into the casserole dish. Stir well to moisten the bread cubes. Cover baking dish with foil.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until eggs are set, about 25 minutes. Uncover and continue baking until top starts to brown, about 5 minutes more.
  5. Veggie and meat substitutions work great for this recipe!

I think this would be better with a little less bread and less worchestorshire sauce. Also next time I make this I’m going to incorporate some potatoes and cubed ham a little on the larger side like 3/4 inch. But was good with some tweaks, will try it again.

I made this for Christmas breakfast and my family loved it! We used tater tots instead of bread and bacon instead of ham otherwise I followed the recipe.

I made changes to this recipe, instead of 2 cups wheat flour and 1 cup rice flour, I switch the two, two cups rice flour and 1 cup reg flour, (don’t use any other milk besides dairy milk, I used coconut milk one time and messed it up) I use 2 1/2 cups of sugar , and I personally use brown sugar instead of white with cinnamon added on top.

I used frozen hash browns instead of bread!
