Chaffles with Almond Flour

  4.6 – 33 reviews

In order to achieve a more conventional waffle texture and get rid of any eggy flavor, this chaffle recipe uses almond flour. These cheesy waffles became popular overnight in the low-carb/keto community. Try them, they’re fantastic, I promise! I make beautiful 4-inch chaffles with a cheap small waffle maker (like the Dash small Maker Waffle). The possibilities for using chaffles are endless!

Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 10 mins
Additional Time: 5 mins
Total Time: 20 mins
Servings: 2
Yield: 2 4-inch chaffles

Ingredients

  1. 1 large egg
  2. 1 tablespoon blanched almond flour
  3. ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  4. ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  5. cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Whisk egg, almond flour, and baking powder together in a bowl. Stir in mozzarella cheese; set batter aside.
  2. Preheat a waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. Spray both sides of the preheated waffle iron with cooking spray. Pour 1/2 of the batter onto the waffle iron and spread it out from the center with a spoon. Close the waffle maker and cook until chaffle reaches your desired doneness, about 3 minutes. Carefully lift chaffle out of the waffle iron and repeat with remaining batter. Allow chaffles to cool and crisp up, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Use Cheddar cheese instead of mozzarella for a flavor variation.

No Dash mini waffle makers available near me so I picked up a more traditional style. It worked great and since I plan on subbing these for bread it saves a cook cycle. Yummy.

Maybe I did something wrong but I followed the recipe exactly as it was written. The chaffles were completely flavorless and rubbery. I let them sit as directed for a few minutes to crisp up but that never happened. I then tried a second batch but added vanilla extract and Monkfruit. Oddly the same results. Tasteless and not sweet at all. I even used butter and sugar free syrup. As a diabetic that controls my diabetes on keto I was really hoping that I would love this recipe. I still will be trying other keto recipes on here though.

I really enjoy the ease of this recipe. My husband likes to have BLT with them. It serves as a good substitute when craving a sandwhich.

This was my favorite recipe when I first made them. It’s very versatile! I used it for breakfast, sandwiches and desserts! I lost my original recipe and was glad to find it here!

I increased the recipe x4 and added some freshly fried chopped up bacon. Delicious!!!

I made these with sugar free vanilla extract and finely diced, pre-cooked apples (no sugar) and cinnamon. It was a really great breakfast treat and I was very satisfied after eating. The sky is the limits with these. Thank you so much for supplying the almond flour recipe.

Very tasty! But the recipe doesn’t make that many. I used a mini waffle maker and I just doubled the recipe & added pecans. And sugar free strawberry jam. Yummy!❤

I followed the recipe and used coconut oil spray for my mini waffle maker. Boy, these things were absolutely delicious! They had a nice crispness to them even though I didn’t even let them cool down. LOL

We love this recipe!! I doubled the recipe and added some everything but the bagel seasoning to make bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches for myself and my husband.. delicious!!!

Amazing! I doubled the batter since my waffle maker is not a mini. That’s okay my husband and I split it. We put some cream cheese on top and shook on some “everything bagel”’seasoning and it was delicious!

SALT! Baking powder needs salt to activate. A pinch is enough. Great recipe otherwise.

My Chaffle Philly steak was delicious!

Very good chaffle. The 1/2c cheese, however, can present a problem for some, and adds unnecessary fat. I found that by increasing the almond flour to 3T, adding 1T sour cream or greek yogurt + 1t water + 1/8t of baking powder with a pinch of salt is a great alternative and produces a dryer result.

OMG… Excellent!!! I added a packet of Splenda, vanilla and a dash of cinnamon.. Taste like French Toast !!!!

I really liked this recipe. I made it savory and made a buffalo chicken sandwich out of it ( chicken, hot sauce and ranch dressing). The Chaffle was very good. I was surprised how fluffy and tasty it was. Next time I’ll use cheddar or other cheese, the possibilies are endless ( hmmm, a ham and Swiss cheese Chaffle sounds really good!)

I was making just the egg and cheese chaffles as a savoury base for bacon and tomato. Adding the almond flour and baking powder completely change the texture. I found that otherwise the chaffles are quite greasy. I was in the mood for a treat this morning, so I added vanilla to these and then had a little bit of real maple syrup over top. Absolutely excellent. I will be adding the almond flour and the baking powder to savoury chaffles as well. For the savoury ones, I like adding spices into the mix, like onion and garlic powder or even curry powder. TIP: I make my own almond milk in a Vitamix. I save the resulting fine almond powder and I bake that until it dries out and I store it in the fridge. That works really well as almond flour in chaffles and is a huge cost savings.

I followed the recipe and it is *ABSOLUTELY* delicious and super super easy to prepare. I wrote the ingredients in a post it and it’s in my face in the kitchen 😀 #foreverrecipe

This was my first attempt at making a Chaffle. I made it according to directions and then I put it in my butter coated small skillet and put spinach, a slice of bacon, some sauted jalapeno peppers and some about 28 grams of cheddar cheese to melt, then added my tuna packet and it was incredible. I love sandwiches and have missed them, so this will be my go to from now on!!! Thank you for a delicious bread substitute recipe that was super easy!!!

These were great. Just started a low carb with room mate. Doctors orders for him. Very difficult finding low carb breakfast for a fussy eater. These were a hit! Made with cheddar cheese because that was all I had.

It was really good for my first time.
