Everyone enjoys this dish that I make every Thanksgiving. It is delicious both before or after dinner.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 10 mins
Total Time: 25 mins
Servings: 12
Yield: 12 5-inch pancakes

Ingredients

  1. 3 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 3 tablespoons white sugar
  3. 3 teaspoons baking powder
  4. 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  5. ¾ teaspoon salt
  6. 3 cups buttermilk
  7. ½ cup milk
  8. 3 eggs
  9. ⅓ cup butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Beat together buttermilk, milk, eggs, and melted butter in a separate bowl. Keep the two mixtures separate until you are ready to cook.

  3. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium-high heat. You can flick water across the surface and if it beads up and sizzles, it’s ready.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture; use a wooden spoon or fork to mix until it’s just blended together. The batter will be a little lumpy which is what you want.
  5. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios
  6. Pour or scoop the batter onto the preheated griddle, using approximately 1/2 cup for each pancake. Cook until bubbles appear on the surface, 1 to 2 minutes; flip with a spatula and cook until browned on the other side. Repeat with remaining batter.

  8. Serve hot and enjoy!

This recipe was delicious I added fresh blueberries as well as about a half teaspoon of fresh ground nutmeg and a half teaspoon of ground cinnamon which felt like it put this recipe over the top! My wife and my kids absolutely loved it!

These are the best! They are easy and my family loves them.

Huge difference between this and boxed. Well worth the effort,

Best buttermilk recipe ever I added blueberries and they were even better.

Love this recipe! I make blueberry pancakes and they are so good we eat them with just butter, no syrup! ❤️ I read some reviews and if you were dissatisfied it could be over mixing and never mix a second time. Also I always give my batter time to rest before I start cooking Mine were light, fluffy and full of flavor!

Fluffiest pancakes. Might add a tad more sugar next go. A definite keeper. Made more than indicated. Yummy.

Great easy to make super fluffy

Oooooo yeah! These are perfect in every way imaginable. When pancakes dreamed of being, this is what they saw. These would bring nations together. But I prefer mine with cane syrup. I leave that Yankee tree sap to the missus. She’s funny like that.

Great recipe, but far too much for ONE person.

I made an account just so I could rate this as the worst pancake recipe i have ever seen in my life. I looked one up to try something new and it looked to me like the solid to liquid ratio was wrong but it was so highly rated i figured I’d try it. I should’ve read the reviews though because 90% of the 5 star reviews describe how they changed the recipe in some way because the recipe as is is totally wrong. Which shouldn’t then be a 5 star review for this recipe! I had to fix so many things in this recipe it’s basically an entirely different pancake recipe. This recipe as is, is completely unusable.

This recipe is probably the best pancakes I’ve ever made! We usually eat crepes but we all loved them! It makes a large amount so I cut the recipe in half. I used two eggs. I also used 1.5 cups buttermilk and 0.5 cups of regular milk.

Great, my 10 year old twins even can make this and turned out well.

I just made half a recipe since it’s just me and my husband , I followed the recipe exactly, and these were delicious!

I have been making this recipe for YEARS now. I started making it when my grandson was around 12 and he is now 20 years old. I make all of the pancakes and freeze the extras for another day. Wrap them up individually on parchment paper then place them in a zip lock bag. Take what we want out later and pop into a toaster for a few minutes. I do not always have buttermilk, so I use the 1 tablespoon to 1 cup of milk recipe to make my own. Over the years I have made several batches (dry ingredients only) added to mason jars with the recipe attached for Christmas gifts. Winner with everyone we have gifted. Best fluffy pancakes, with a very easy to make recipe.

Best pancakes I’ve ever made and I do a lot of cooking… these were light and so fluffy. Followed recipe exactly as is! I cooked the pancakes on a griddle at 275-300 degrees. I used a 1/4 cup ice cream scoop to make the pancakes identical. I waited until the griddle was hot and then mixed the wet and dry ingredients together so the batter stayed bubbly. I folded the ingredients in slowly with a rubber spatula and was thinking the batter looked runny but kept folding gently until it was mixed with some lumps. The batter wasn’t thick per se but it was fluffy and not runny which means when you pour the batter on the griddle it doesn’t spread. I took my scooper and used it to spread the batter out on the griddle. When little air bubbles/holes showed on the pancake I flipped them. This is my new recipe

Best pancakes ever I even forgot the half cup of milk and they came out awesome. I did add about a tablespoon of vanilla to the batter tho. Soooooo good

I’ve been looking for a GOOD easy Buttermilk pancake recipe, this one is going to stay in my recipe box! DELICIOUS and FLUFFY. I didn’t have whole milk, so I used 1/2 and 1/2 and it was PERFECT.

I made this recipe today. One mistake was mixing all ingredients at once, but didn’t seem to change the recipe. The pancakes were so fluffy, really light. I love it.I added some vanilla to the batter. But I’ll be keeping batter in fridge so I can indulge again tomorrow. If I were to add anything, I would add fresh blueberries or chocolate chips into the pancake when it’s poured. But will definitely make again

WE LOVE THIS RECIPE BUT HOWEVER ADDING AN ADDITIONAL 1/2 IS TOO MUCH LIQUID THE PANCAKES WILL COME OUT RUNNY. I ALSO ADDED IN VANILLA AS FOR A NICE FLAVOR. A FEW TIMES I HAVE ADDED CINNAMON AND NUTMEG FOR ADDED FLAVOR DURING CHRISTMAS TIME OR ANYTIME FOR A NICE AROMA TO YOUR PANCAKES.
