Bananas Foster French Toast Bake

After baking, my Bananas Foster French Toast Bake travels easily and tastes excellent on Christmas morning. The majority of the preparation is finished the day before baking, and it’s easy to create. Who doesn’t adore bananas Foster with French toast? This must-make holiday staple in my home combines two fantastic flavours.

Ingredients

  1. cooking spray
  2. 1 loaf French bread, cut diagonally into 1-inch slices
  3. 1 ½ cups half-and-half
  4. 6 eggs, slightly beaten
  5. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  6. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  7. ½ teaspoon salt
  8. 3 large bananas, cut diagonally into 1/2-inch slices
  9. 1 cup brown sugar
  10. ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  11. 2 tablespoons light corn syrup

Instructions

  1. Spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with cooking spray. Arrange bread slices in baking pan in a single layer. Whisk half-and-half, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt together in a bowl; pour over bread slices. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate, 8 hours to overnight.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  3. Remove plastic wrap and top bread slices with bananas. Combine brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup in a bowl; drizzle over bread slices.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown and set in the center, about 40 minutes.

I used half the brown sugar since the bananas add sweetness. Very good for Christmas breakfast!

I halved this recipe when I made it. The French toast bake part of this recipe was fabulous. But the banana foster portion was SO SWEET. I could barely stomach it as breakfast. I do plan on making it again but cutting back on the sweetness.
