Prep Time: 20 mins
Cook Time: 1 hr
Total Time: 1 hr 20 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 1 11-inch quiche

Ingredients

  1. 1 (15 ounce) package unbaked pie crust
  2. ½ (8 ounce) package bacon
  3. ½ small onion, finely chopped
  4. 1 large apple, peeled, cored, and sliced
  5. 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  6. ¾ cup milk
  7. ½ cup sour cream
  8. 3 large eggs
  9. 1 teaspoon sea salt
  10. 1 pinch ground cinnamon
  11. ½ (8 ounce) package sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
  12. 1 tablespoon sage, dried

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Press pie crust into the bottom and up the sides of an 11-inch tart pan.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven until golden, 10 to 12 minutes. Remove and let cool.
  3. Reduce the oven temperature to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  4. Place bacon in a large skillet and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain bacon slices on paper towels. Crumble.
  5. Heat bacon grease in the same skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and saute until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add apple and cook until just tender, 3 to 5 minutes. Add garlic and saute until fragrant, about 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in bacon.
  6. Whisk milk, sour cream, eggs, sea salt, and cinnamon together in a bowl.
  7. Layer apple mixture, Cheddar cheese, and egg mixture in the prepared crust. Sprinkle sage over top.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven until set, 30 to 40 minutes. Allow to cool before serving.
  9. You can use butter instead of bacon grease and ham instead of bacon.
  10. Follow individual package instructions for baking pie crust.

Love this recipe, however, I would change the addition of salt as it was too salty. I also think sautéing the apples in the bacon grease adds to the saltiness. I’ll make again but definitely make some changes to the recipe.

I only had two apples but it was plenty. It was a great taste to have those apples n there. Just a little bit of sweet, in the mist of a bite of eggs, Yum! Got positive review from the family it will be going in the rotation. Thank you for sharing your delious recipe??

I didn’t peel the apples and used “Grandma’s Secret Pie Crust.” The kids ate all and the kitchen smelled like a farmhouse this morning.

A good flavor combination. Definitely needs a higher temperature to cook or add time. Also, used Granny Smith apples. Not as sweet as I would have liked. Still a very tasty dinner.

Whole family loved! Peeled and chunked 1 gala apple, sauteed in butter (next time I will saute in meat grease but I was in a hurry), diced whole sweet onion and cooked with 1# Italian sausage (only put 3/4 mixture into quiche), cubed tiny pieces of smoked cheddar into quiche, sage was awesome and not too strong, topped it all with more grated smokey cheddar. Prebaked pie crust 10 min 350 (could’ve used a little longer) Whole quiche baked 35 min 325 and was set and done perfect.

Very tasty! I used the Kayem smoked thick bacon that worked out well.

Made it with no changes and even after adding 30 minutes more to baking time it was still had not set and to much liquid. The flavor was great.

I substituted a pound of Jamestown mild sausage (browned and well drained) for the bacon and omitted the cinnamon. A definite keeper! Perfect for a hearty brunch.

This was delicious!! I used a Granny Smith apple and it was the perfect sweet/salty combination. I plan to make again. Thank you!

I think the apples made it too watery. I left it in the oven longer hoping the juice would evaporate. It did no good just got juicier. The eggs were very loose as well. If i make this again I’m gonna modify it……..a lot!

I omitted the cinnamon becauseit does not flavor blend with sage. The prebake on the pie crust led it to be overcooked. I will make a riff on this recipe in the future but not going to make again.

This looked absolutely beautiful coming out of the oven. Hubby liked it except for the apples. They just didn’t add much to the dish. I made it using the cheese quiche crust on this site- that was delicious! The combo of the bacon, garlic and onion was very good though.

So I made this for brunch on Christmas day. It turned out perfect. I used a pre-made pie shell which worked perfect. The mix of apple and bacon was a great combination. I didn’t alter the recipe and no problems happened. I am looking forward to making it again.
