Al’s Bloody Marys

  5.0 – 4 reviews

My stepdad, Al, was a beautiful man and an excellent chef. He had a Bloody Mary recipe that was one of his specialties, and no matter how many pitchers he made for guests, they kept asking for more. The only change I made was to add some horseradish. This is a terrific brunch drink, but when guests come over for dinner, they constantly ask me to prepare “Al’s Bloodys.”

Prep Time: 10 mins
Total Time: 10 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 1 pitcher

Ingredients

  1. 16 fluid ounces vodka
  2. 2 cups tomato juice (such as Sacramento®)
  3. 2 cups tomato and clam juice cocktail (such as Clamato®)
  4. 1 lemon, juiced
  5. 1 lime, juiced
  6. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, or to taste
  7. 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish, or to taste
  8. 2 teaspoons finely ground black pepper, or to taste
  9. 1 ½ teaspoons hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®), or to taste
  10. 1 teaspoon celery salt, or to taste
  11. ice
  12. 1 lime, cut into wedges, or as needed

Instructions

  1. Combine vodka, tomato juice, tomato and clam juice, lemon juice, lime juice, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, black pepper, pepper sauce, and celery salt in a large pitcher. Add ice and pour cocktail into glasses; serve each with a lime wedge.
  2. How many this serves depends on how large a glass you use.
  3. You can serve the horseradish on the side rather than in the drink.

This is great but save yourself some trouble and just buy Clamato juice. This is actually a Canadian drink called a Bloody Ceasar

I did substitute V8 for the tomato and Clamato juices, but then stuck to the recipe. I also added about a tablespoon of pickle juice and jalapeño juice. Rave reviews all around. I’m glad I found this recipe as a base to build on.

Very good…. I didn’t have clamato juice, but it was good without it , but I’m sure it would be better with it
