  5.0 – 2 reviews

Making the ideal side dish for a handmade Italian meal only requires two ingredients. Even your favorite Italian restaurant can’t compete with these tender, toasty breadsticks, and they can be on the table for dinner in under 30 minutes. To add even more flavor, sprinkle on some dried parsley flakes and shredded Parmesan.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 30 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 8 breadsticks

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup self-rising flour, plus more for kneading
  2. 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  3. 2 tablespoons olive oil
  4. 2 teaspoons garlic salt, or to taste
  5. 3 tablespoons shredded Parmesan cheese, or to taste (Optional)
  6. 1 teaspoon dried parsley, or to taste (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix 1 cup flour and Greek yogurt together in a medium bowl until a shaggy dough forms. Transfer to a surface dusted with more self-rising flour, and knead for 8 to 10 minutes. Continue adding flour as needed if the dough is too sticky.
  3. Using a rolling pin, shape the dough into a thick 8×10-inch rectangle. Cut 8 even strips from the dough, molding into long logs if needed. Move to the prepared sheet pan.
  4. Brush the dough with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic salt.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until lightly browned, 16 to 18 minutes. Garnish with Parmesan cheese and parsley, if desired. Serve warm.

I think I know why my breadsticks didn’t rise. I didn’t remix the self-rising flour that I made and the salt fell to the bottom of the container. I think that is it. They were really good though

These are absolutely the BEST breadsticks – so easy, and the recipe allows for many customizations. I put Italian seasonings and Parmesan in the dough, and made twists. Basted with olive oil before baking and topped with grated Parmesan. Excellent recipe!
