To make this, I mixed two different recipes.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 25 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 8 scones

Ingredients

  1. 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for kneading
  2. ½ cup white sugar
  3. 5 teaspoons baking powder
  4. ½ teaspoon salt
  5. ¾ cup butter
  6. 1 cup milk
  7. 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl; cut in butter with 2 knives or a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Whisk milk and egg in a small bowl; gradually stir into flour mixture until moistened.
  3. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly, 5 or 6 turns. Pat or roll dough out into a 1/2-inch thick round. Cut into 8 wedge-shaped pieces and place onto the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake scones in the preheated oven until golden brown on top, about 15 minutes.

It was awesome and my family, neighbors, and I loved it!

This was super easy and they tasted great! I made the following changes, some for dietary reasons. Used 4 tsp baking soda instead of 5. Added 1 tsp of vanilla extract. Substituted coconut oil for the butter. Used lactose free half and half in place of milk. Used egg yolk only, no white. Divided into 12 balls then pressed down with a glass (no additional flour was needed). Baked for 17 minutes.

I add cannabis and blueberries with a blueberry drizzle

Added 5 cups flour to match with the 5 teaspoons of baking powder. Quick and simple

It was fun! and tasty, at the beginning the dough was soft so I added extra strength 🙂 and of course, more flour little by little while kneading until I got the perfect consistency.

The dough was too soft to roll as most have commented, so I spooned it onto the baking tray instead. Added a tsp of vanilla essence and dried fruit. They came out crunchy in the top and soft on the inside. Overall very tasty!

Mine turned out great but i did have to add a lot of additional flour when i was trying to knead because the dough was way too sticky. Other than that I’d add only 1/4 cup of sugar instead of the full amount. I’m not sure if plain scones are meant to be sweet. The texture reminded me a lot of biscuits. I might use this recipe in the future to make biscuits instead. My recipe for biscuits is not as good as this one.

Just done my today and they came out perfect. Just doubled the measurements because I wanted more.

Seems this recipe uses a compact one cup measure, volume, not accurate weight. If you measure correctly, it’s very wet. It turned out like soft biscuits. I added dried cherries, and it tasted good though.

Surprisingly simple and tasty. I used the milk / half and half recommendation and it added to the taste. Needed about 8 extra minutes of baking time to brown. I also used sparkling sugar and they looked amazing too!

Nice recipe for a beginner. I needed more flour than 3 cups and mine were not done in the 15 mins at 400. I put them on for another 10 mins at 350

The scones are lovely but put 3 tsp of baking powder instead of 5 and I added more milk and added egg to the top of them butter and that is it

Loved it and I added Butterscotch chips, let me just say AMAZING YUM!

These were delicious! I followed the recipe and the tip to substitute the milk with half and half. Additionally, I mixed the egg and half and half first and then slowly poured it into the flour mix. The dough was very crumbly so it took me, a non baker, a little longer to roll and shape it. I baked for 18 minutes until golden brown. I will make these again!

I make them with raisins and fennel seed. I now have my neighbors asking me to make them, again and again. Also, lemon zest and toasted pecans. Oh, I add 1 tsp vanilla and use half and half rather than milk.

I’m so happy. I’m a terrible cook. Recipes fail all the time. I’ve read about how difficult scone are to make, but decided to give it a try. They are perfect. Flaky, buttery, and delicious. Thank you!

Easy and delicious!

quick simple, had no problem with consistancy if I added a little more flour. Used the egg and milk mixed together trick also. Made 36 small heart shaped scones.

Never fail!! I have made exactly as recipe and have also added blueberries and lemon, or raspberries topped with slivered almonds, also maple and walnuts. It is my absolute go to if I want to impress.

I had been craving scones for a while and the scones I bought did not quite hit the spot I was looking for. I decided to try my hand at making them myself. This recipe HIT THE SPOT perfectly. Thank you.
