Ingredients
- 1 (17.5 ounce) package frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 4 tablespoons chocolate-hazelnut spread (such as Nutella®), or more to taste, at room temperature
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out one puff pastry sheet into a large rectangle on a lightly floured surface and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Lightly score puff pastry into the shape of a Christmas tree (triangle) with a wide base. Spread chocolate-hazelnut spread over the triangle in a thin layer with the back of a spoon.
- Roll out the second sheet of puff pastry to a large rectangle and place on top of the first one. Carefully trace the shape of the chocolate-covered triangle underneath and cut out the Christmas tree shape and the trunk. Pull away excess pastry.
- Lightly score 2 lines down the middle of the triangle to form a tree trunk that is narrower at the top and gets wider towards the base. Using the trunk as a guide, cut branches into the sides of the triangle.
- Twist the branches away from you, trying to get in 2 turns on the lower branches. Continue moving up the tree, twisting away from you as you go.
- Cut a small star out of the excess pastry; place it on top of the tree. Brush the star and the whole tree with beaten egg.
- Bake in the preheated oven until puffy and golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes. Cool slightly, about 5 minutes. Slide onto a serving plate, using a piece of parchment paper if needed.

It was a hit at the office. It was gone in minutes. Looked adorable!
Such a beautiful creation and yummmmmmmy!!!!
It was so easy to make (I used a package of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls…used the 2-halves when making the triangle into the top layer of the tree (also made the trunk and star with the scraps) and added sprinkles after brushing on the egg wash! Just love how it turned out! Plus, it slipped easily off the parchment paper onto a serving platter. Thank you for the recipe!!!
Pleased with my first attempt!
It was great and so pretty, many compliments and I’ve made it 2 more times since.
This is delicious. Probably would be good with raspberry jam too!
i used fudge instead of nutella
Very easy and very tasty
It was very easy to make. Everyone love it!
Easy to make and delicious! It was the perfect midday Christmas snack. I put strawberries and bananas as ornaments.
I used one sheet of puff pastry. After cutting the sides of the triangle off, spread Nutella then use the cut off pieces to cover. Lay extra smalll pieces down the middle to cover seem. Baked at 400 per pastry directions. Lovely breakfast treat.
The only change I made was to dust it with confectionery sugar. A Christmas Tree needs snow on it.
Turned out great. I did not change a thing!
MIne turned out great
First attempt and it came out pretty well! Next time I’m going microwave the Nutella longer so it spreads easier and use a bit of water to seal the edges of the star but otherwise great!
Makes for a great host gift. Wonderful tasting and looks great on display.
So simple, so tasty, and so festive. Loved making this and my girls (as well as the rest of the family) were impressed. Didn’t change a thing.
A brand new family tradition is born! This was great! I made the recipe but substituted a green (food coloring) tinted sweetened cream cheese and egg filling for the Nutella. After forming the branches and brushing with egg wash I sprinkled the entire tree and star with sparkly silver sugar crystals and mini M&M’s. As someone else noted, after cutting out the tree shape, you have the equivalent of another entire tree, if you simply put the two tree scrap halves together (lightly wet the dough and press together at the seam a bit to make the two halves stick together as much as possible.) So I made two trees. Good thing I did, because they were both devoured!
A bit messy when twisting the tree branches. No need to sugar on top.
I added nutella to the star too; no need to miss out on another place to add nutella!
The recipe is super easy, unfortunately, the Pepperidge Puff Pastry I purchased had one of them all separated so I had a bit of a hassle having to roll it with a rolling pin, but I prevailed and although a bit crooked, not bad for my first try. It was a hit for Christmas dessert and next time I will take the tips of zapping Nutella in the microwave to make spreading it easier. However, everybody raved about it.
