Easy Funnel Cakes

  4.4 – 88 reviews

tasty enchiladas without meat. You can adjust the cheese and cream sauce proportions to make the dishes as light or as filling as you wish. I use between three and five kinds of mushrooms. Buttons, baby portobello, and different kinds of oysters.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 25 mins
Servings: 12
Yield: 4 cakes

Ingredients

  1. 1 egg
  2. ⅔ cup milk
  3. ¼ teaspoon salt
  4. 2 tablespoons white sugar
  5. 1 ⅓ cups sifted all-purpose flour
  6. ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  7. 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
  8. ¼ cup confectioners’ sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Pour 1-inch-deep oil into a heavy pan; heat to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Beat together egg and milk in a large bowl. Sift flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder into the bowl; beat into egg mixture until smooth.
  3. Pour batter through a funnel over hot oil with a circular motion to form a spiral. Fry in hot oil until bottom is golden brown; flip and continue cooking until golden brown all over. Drain on paper towels. Continue cooking remaining batter.
  4. Sprinkle cakes with confectioner’s sugar while still warm.
  5. We have determined the nutritional value of oil for frying based on a retention value of 10% after cooking. The exact amount may vary depending on cook time and temperature, ingredient density, and the specific type of oil used.

I only give this 3 stars because we’ve all had to edit it by adding more milk and more sugar. 1 full cup of milk 1/4 cup of sugar And I also added 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract for flavor. They came.out so perfect!

I increased milk to one cup and doubled the sugar. Topped with fresh strawberries and powdered sugar. Would definitely make it again with the changes.

Next time I’ll add a bit more milk so the batter flows more readily. Other than that, thumbs up!

I always put vanilla in my batter. I found that this was way too bland and the vanilla really gives it the flavor of the fair, I think. Just a suggestion that works well for us!!

Just a question, could you use a small fry daddy instead of the skillet to make these? I intend to make them with my grandkids – sound delicious! Thanks! Linda

Someone was reading my mind when this recipe was emailed to me. Added a little more milk than was in the recipe. All I was missing was the sound of the Carousel at the fair, Deeelish
