Cheddar Onion Drop Biscuits

These delicious biscuits with cheddar and green onions taste like savory cheese. In the winter, they go well with a bowl of chili or a substantial soup, while in the summer, they go well with a big salad.

Cook Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 25 mins
Servings: 12
Yield: 12 biscuits

Ingredients

  1. 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  2. ½ teaspoon baking powder
  3. ½ teaspoon baking soda
  4. ½ teaspoon salt

  6. 1 ½ cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  7. ½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese

The only alteration I made to the recipe is a cut up three fresh habanero and put in the batch. It turned out excellent. Next time I will brush melted butter / garlic powder on top of them and possibly add some smoke sugar to the recipe. Thanks for sharing!

I used grated parm since that was all I had. Otherwise followed recipe and they came out great! Will definitely make again.

Great texture and so simple to make! I needed a last minute side dish with white chicken chili and these were perfect. I made 9 larger biscuits and cooked them for 16 minutes. I didn’t have dried minced onion so I omitted it. Next time I might use fresh green onion as others have recommended.

Love the recipe! My husband was my taste tester, he was very pleased! Thank you for the recipe!

This recipe is so easy and the results are delicious! I also used green onions (used 3 but could have probably used more) and added a little garlic powder but followed the rest of the recipe. I got 10 and they needed a couple extra minutes in the oven.

Delicious! Used green onions & a clove of garlic finely chopped. Had to use extra buttermilk. baked for 13 mins. & they were perfectly done. Cool before removing.

These mixed up really dry as written. I added about two tablespoons more of buttermilk and next time I’ll probably double the butter too, but overall they were very tasty. I used them on top of a shepard’s pie and they baked just fine and came out golden and flaky on top with gooey bottoms in the gravy. Very close to a 5 star recipe.

Delicious! and a very forgiving recipe. i used 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, a little more than called for.i used chopped yellow onion the first time and increased butter to 1 stick, also increased baking soda and baking powder to 1 tsp. the second time i forgot to add the onion but still great! made with fried chicken. oh and grate the butter, much faster! i made small snowballs with the lightly stirred mix and flattened slightly on parchment paper, take out when tops brown slightly. will make again and again!

This is an amazing recipe. Biscuits were crisp on the outside and fluffy and soft inside. Everyone loved them! Best biscuit recipe I have tried and the best part is, they are drop biscuits, no need to roll out. I highly recommend it!

This is my new goto recipe for biscuits. They are oerfect as is. But, since we rarelt have onion flakes at home, we use a 1/4 cup of fresh diced onion, instead. amazing!

Oooh! Delicious! So easy and a winner. I added green onions instead, and did not have buttermilk so added whisked yoghurt and water and vinegar. Came out absolutely wonderful!

These biscuits are amazing! If you don’t have buttermilk, you can substitute it with a cup of milk and a tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar!

I added more onions, otherwise made exactly like recipe. I think they needed more time cooking but were very dark so next time I will cook 15-20 min at 425. I’m also at a higher elevation.

Very good and very easy. Only thing I did differently was add a little more buttermilk. I made my biscuits a bit bigger (9 biscuits) and they cooked in 15 minutes. Will be making these again for sure!

I added ham to the cheese

They were moist and tasty.

I prepared the Cheddar Onion Drop Biscuits today. I followed the recipe exactly. My first batch baked for 10 minutes and we’re getting too dark, so I took them out, they seemed done. I lowered my oven to 425 for my 2nd batch of biscuits, they baked to a golden brown in 14 minutes. I brushed them with melted butter mixed with a little garlic powder. They are moist on the inside & crispy on the outside. We ate the biscuit with my homemade chili. Yum!

Followed recipe, and also added approx. 1 Tbsp of green onion (for colour and taste, per Naples comment). They were ready after 12-13 minutes, Very moist, airy and tasty. I will definitely make these again, and may add some garlic to round out the parmesan taste (which even though I love, is the predominate flavour). Thanks for the great recipe!!
Melanie Hudson
I will definitely make again! For a more moist biscuit I added just a little more milk. Otherwise, perfect.

I made these biscuits exactly as written. We loved them. They were light and flaky and flavorful. I used very cold butter which is my choice for all biscuits.

I didn’t have cheddar cheese so I used smoked gruyere cheese my kids raved about it!
