Bread Machine Monkey Bread

March is a month of abundance for those of us who reside in the maple syrup region. We all go to the sugar bush to sip the maple syrup once the trees have been tapped. Our ancestors used to enjoy making this recipe frequently.

Prep Time: 30 mins
Cook Time: 25 mins
Additional Time: 2 hrs 25 mins
Total Time: 3 hrs 20 mins
Servings: 12
Yield: 1 bundt pan

Ingredients

  1. 2 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast
  2. 3 cups all-purpose flour
  3. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  4. 1 teaspoon salt
  5. ¼ cup white sugar
  6. 2 tablespoons margarine, softened
  7. 1 cup water
  8. 1 cup margarine
  9. 1 cup packed brown sugar
  10. 1 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Remove the baking pan from the machine. Place yeast, flour, cinnamon, salt, white sugar, 2 tablespoons margarine, and water in the order recommended for the bread machine. Make sure that no liquid comes in contact with yeast. Select dough cycle and press start.
  2. Transfer dough to a floured surface; knead 10 to 12 times. Set aside to rest.
  3. Melt 1 cup margarine in a medium saucepan over low heat. Stir in brown sugar and raisins until smooth. Remove from heat.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a Bundt or tube pan.
  5. Cut dough into 1-inch chunks. Drop a chunk at a time into brown sugar mixture to thoroughly coat. Layer dough pieces loosely in the prepared pan, staggering layers, so you’re plopping each dough chunk over a space between two below. Let rise in a warm, draft-free spot until dough is just over the top of the pan, 15 to 20 minutes.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, 20 to 25 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven and cover the pan with a plate. Holding the plate and the pan with oven mitts, flip over both until bread slides out onto the plate. Serve warm.

Great recipe! Definitely use all the syrup. I only dipped them as it said and drizzled a bit extra in Bundt pan. It was a tad dry. So dump that syrup in! Made with margarine but would probably be better with real butter. I didn’t take the time to cut the batter. Just ripped and dunked. Delicious.

Used classic white bread dough recipe from bread machine, only needed a fraction of the sauce, but absolutely delicious every time! That for the great recipe!

I used butter, not margarine. I plumped the saltana raisins ahead, and only used 2/3 cup. Melt in your mouth goodness. Fun to make with husband helping.

Best recipe for actual homemade monkey bread! If I cut the syrup ingredients, we run short, but as is, it makes a lot! Delicious in every way. 2021 I still make this recipe as written, and it’s delicious in every way. 6/2022 bake at 320 x 30 min in 2 bread loaf pans. Perfect!!

Was super sweet. Too much sugar, I think. I’d try again and use less white sugar maybe.

Delicious! Nice and gooey in between the rolls. I added a pinch of clove, extra cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.

Delicious. I made this without a bread machine, and made a 1/3 batch in an air fryer.

Very Good. I used hand made method w/o bread machine. No raisins or nuts but was delicious. I agree the caramel mixture makes ALOT! You could get by making 1/2-3/4 what the recipe calls for. Very good and easy recipe!

Good recipe. One of the reviews said that it would spill over in the oven, so I put a baking sheet under it which caused it to not cook well on the bottom. It didn’t spill over at all either. Follow the recipe!

I have been wanting to make monkey bread and found this recipe. All I can say is this recipe was awful. I was being kind with 2 stars.

I made this with pecans instead of raisins. It was delicious!! A bread machine makes it so much easier! I will definately make this again!!

I made it exactly following the recipe just added a teaspoon of cinnamon to the butter/brown sugar mix. It was a huge hit at Christmas dinner I am definitely adding this to my favorites. It’s easy and quick to make and the caramel sauce when it’s warm is delicious. I also made a cream cheese icing to top it.
