Best Bread Machine Bread

My interpretation of an American-Mediterranean mix is this. We were also lacking in protein that evening, so this was developed. Even though the dish is a salad, it is nonetheless rather satisfying and bursting with flavor. The preparation work takes up the most of the time, and then it is simply put together.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 40 mins
Additional Time: 2 hrs 10 mins
Total Time: 3 hrs
Servings: 12
Yield: 1 loaf

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  2. 2 tablespoons white sugar
  3. 1 (.25 ounce) package bread machine yeast
  4. ¼ cup vegetable oil
  5. 3 cups bread flour
  6. 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Place water, sugar, and yeast in the pan of the bread machine. Let yeast dissolve and foam for 10 minutes. Add oil, flour, and salt to the yeast. Select Basic or White Bread setting, and press Start.
  2. Remove loaf from the machine after the cycle is done; cool in the pan for 5 minutes before turning it out onto a rack to cool completely.

Being that this was my first loaf of bread ever baked (in a bread machine or otherwise) I followed the recipe exactly. It turned out great! I was a little concerned that since the yeast I was using didn’t specify that it was “bread machine yeast” that it wouldn’t work. I used “Fleischmann’s Active Dry Yeast” yet followed the instructions in the recipe, not the instructions on the product packet which tells you to add it to water first, THEN follow the recipe. I practically devoured the entire loaf in almost one sitting so I must’ve done something right by just following the recipe’s instructions. The second loaf I made the following day was a different recipe and it called for 2 cups of “all purpose flour.” Since I only had “bread flour” I used that. Everything looked fine until about the last half hour, the loaf collapsed inside the machine. So the half loaf that it made had a strange texture and had a pasty taste. Note to self: follow the recipe exactly when you’re a novice … like myself. So today I returned to this tried and true recipe. It’s baking as I write. If there’s no update following this, then ‘no news is good news’ and we can consider it a success! A reliable recipe! Reliable is a good thing …as a 5 lb bag of “Gold Medal bread flour” was almost $9.00 where I shop! Who can afford failures?!

Not finished yet but, is it a 1.5# or 2# loaf? My bread maker asked.

I thought one of the advantages in using “bread machine yeast” was it did not need the “proofing” in warm water.

This is the bread I have been looking for. It is perfect. Light and fluffy like the bread from the grocery store but without all the extra ingredients.

This is our favorite go-to recipe. We let it rest in a bread pan for 30 minutes and then bake it in the oven. Never use the bread machine for baking because the girls don’t like the shape of the bread ‍♀️ We use olive oil instead of vegetable oil, and added another 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

It turned out really well. I put the ingredients in the machine according the manufacturers instructions (liquid then solids then yeast). I also added 2 TBSP’S of brown sugar

This was my very first try at baking bread in a bread machine and it turned out GREAT!! I’ll definitely use this recipe again. (I used canola and it still turned out fantastic!!) I’m thinking of browning butter and trying that in place of the oil next time I make it. hmmmm ….

It’s a wonderful taste and soft and light I will be using again

Great recipe! Good bread for sandwiches. I was looking for a bread that wasnt so dense and finally found this. I use 4 tablespoons of better in place of the oil.

Loved it! I added just a little extra salt. Instead of vegetable oil, I used extra virgin olive oil (EVOO).I also added dried parsley. PERFECTION!!

Best bread I’ve ever tasted

The recipe was easy to use. I buy yeast in bulk so I looked up conversion tables from yeast packets to teaspoons. There were different opinions but the one I latched onto was 1 packet = 2¼ tsp. That seemed like a lot for the amount of flour so I reduced it to just 2 tsp yeast. Worked great!

I made this delicious bread and instead of oil I replaced with butter instead. I did not melt it – I left it hard as the butter blends better while in a solid condition. Well to say, the bread turned out so good that I had to make another bread and take to my co-workers. They said the bread was good that they couldn’t stop eating it. Thanks for this wonderful recipe – it is better than the bread recipe that came with the machine. I am in the process of making another bread after a month because it is raining outside and what a day to smell homemade bread smelling while I relax and watch the rain come down. Smiling 🙂

Excellent bread. I tweaked it a bit I used 2 teaspoons of bread maker yeast. I used a half cup of 2% milk and half cup of warm water 2 tablespoons of white sugar and dissolved the yeast in the mixture for 5 minutes. Put 1/4 cup veg oil in bread maker then myyeast mixture, then 3 cups of flour with 1/2 teaspoon of salt on top. 2 lb setting basic white.

I use extra virgin olive oil. Gives it more flavor.

Very adaptable to playing with mixed flour breads. I replaced 1 cup of bread flour with oat flour and the bread stayed fresh and soft for a week. Love it.
