Apple Scones

A refined strawberry shortcake, this. Grains from graham crackers are used to make the cake. A Zinfandel syrup flavored with cardamom and cloves is used to marinade the strawberries. Any exquisite dinner is perfected by it!

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  2. ¼ cup white sugar
  3. 2 teaspoons baking powder
  4. ½ teaspoon baking soda
  5. ½ teaspoon salt
  6. ¼ cup butter, chilled

These were amazing and the entire family enjoyed it. Definitely gonna make them again!

This recipe is really good. I did add pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice for nice fall pumpkin apple scone. They were delicious, my family asked when I would make them again.

I’ve tried several apple scone recipes but this is my new favorite! Soft and delicious it was hard not to eat them all myself!

I have no idea why people are raving over this. Like others I added cinnamon, and nutmeg to the dough. I probably even added extra apple as the recipe only calls for one apple, but I used two small ones. It smells great baking, but has little, to no taste. I can’t imagine what it’s like without extra flavor.

I followed Jillians recommendations and they were perfect

Easy, light and good, but the grated apple kind of disappeared. Next time I’ll try diced apple instead, and I want to try diced peaches too. Sprinkled the top with large granulated sugar, then cinnamon sugar on top of that, and that was good. I tried grating frozen butter before, and I think it’s much easier and less messy to just cut in the butter the regular way. I will make again.

Great recipe! I did add cinnamon and nutmeg to the dough. Also made an apple cinnamon topping for it. Added the topping and then baked for 20mins. Turned out wonderful, everyone loves them!

Very good! I had to add a little bit of milk to mine and decided to add a little extra cinnamon and sugar to the dough.

Delicious! I added the extra milk into the batter instead of brushing it on top, this worked pretty well. I would also bake at 400 for 15+ minutes

The dough turned out incredibly dry, it looked like I hadn’t added any wet ingredients to it. I thought it was because I cut the apple into chunks instead of shredding it and I used buttermilk instead of milk. I added an extra 1/4 cup of buttermilk and they got nice and sticky, and instead of kneading them I just scooped them onto the baking sheet. The dough itself wasn’t very sweet or flavourful so I really dumped the cinnamon sugar on top and they turned out pretty nice after that.

I followed instructions to the tee while adding a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg and they were still tasteless. Very blah.

Great recipe I coated apples in seasoning before adding it to dough

I added a teaspoon and a half of cinnamon. Very nice recipe. Nice texture. Not too sweet just as described

Will absolutely make them again

This was absolutely delicious. I decided to add an extra apple to make the recipe richer, and, I’m sure as a result, I ended iup baking it for 19 minutes rather than the 15 specified in the recipe. At first, the middle of one of the scones seemed too under-cooked. However, after resting for about 15-20 minutes, it resolved that issue and was wonderful!

Easy to make and was so delicious!

A pretty simple recipe to follow, esp. as it was my first time tackling scones (pastries always scare me, I spent days researching scones before finally trying it myself)! I will say I made a couple changes based on what I learned, and what I read in other’s reviews. I added about 2tbsp of cinnamon and pinch of nutmeg to the flour mixture. I also reduced the milk by a third, removed some of the juice from the shredded apple, and added in a handful of raisins. It helped make the mixture less wet, and as Kristiegreen mentioned, more scone-ish. Then I increased the butter by a tbsp. With these additions, the scones were deliciously flavorful! And so very soft and flaky.

Turned out great. Next time thought I’ll add cinnamon into the batter

I made these and found them quite enjoyable, although I would have preferred a stronger flavour. I have since branched out, partially inspired by this recipe, and created my own apple spice scones which are a definite favourite. So thanks to this recipe for the inspiration!

This is the best recipe for scones! This is the third time I’ve made them and I don’t know how it’s possible but each time they seem even better! Thank you from me, my hubby and son 🙂

Nice texture and great with tea without being dry.
