Ingredients
- 24 Tastykake Butterscotch Krimpets (12 packs)
- 8 slices white bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- 10 extra-large eggs, plus 5 egg yolks
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 quart heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup scotch (optional)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
Instructions
- Make the bread pudding: Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Scrape the icing off the Krimpets; reserve the icing. Cut each Krimpet into eighths and toss with the bread cubes in a large bowl.
- Whisk the eggs, egg yolks and granulated sugar in a bowl. Bring the heavy cream to a gentle simmer in a saucepan over medium heat. Slowly whisk the warm cream into the egg mixture until combined, whisking constantly. Add the vanilla and reserved Krimpet icing and whisk until smooth.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread mixture and gently stir to coat. Transfer to a 9-by-13-inch baking dish; bake until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean, 50 minutes to 1 hour. Transfer to a rack and let cool to room temperature.
- Meanwhile, make the icing: Bring the brown sugar, butter and scotch to a simmer in a small saucepan over medium heat; cook, stirring, 3 minutes. Add the heavy cream and vanilla and cook, stirring, until the sugar dissolves, about 2 more minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool completely.
- Transfer the icing mixture to a large bowl. Add the confectioners’ sugar and beat with a mixer until smooth, about 1 minute. Spread on the bread pudding.

Can Tastykake be replaced? I don’t think I can get that in Montana.
thats was great
5 stars just as is! Although, I did accidentally add 3.2 ounces of scotch (2 little airline bottles instead of 2 ounces. It had a nice scotchy bite to the butterscotch icing — I would do it again. Also, next time I’ll add raisins.
Sinfully delicious comfort food and it’s fantastic when served warm! Took it to a huge BBQ party and got rave reviews; a couple of people said they have to have the recipe!
I never review recipes, but this one was just too good not to rave about. I made this as a Christmas morning treat, and my whole family asked that it become an annual tradition. It is sinfully rich and stays moist and delicious (even after a few reheats. I baked this two days before, waited to put the icing on, and warmed it up in the oven Christmas morning – perfect!
This is one of my favorites. I’m not a fan of scotch, so I substituted butterscotch schnapps liqueur and WOW was it good.
I just made it and it’s sinfully delicious!!! This is a keeper for sure!!
it taste great
I am a huge fan of tastykakes being from outside of Philly. I moved down south 17 years ago and I always had to rely on family & friends to send me them as a treat. Well, they are finally down south & i wanted to try this as a way to celebrate. It is AMAZING!!!! My husband is not a krimpet fan and loved this bread pudding. It was so moist and yummy. I served it at my Christmas party and almost everyone made a point to come up to me to say that it was one of the best desserts that they have ever had. I followed the recipe to a T and it was perfect!! Do yourself a favor and make it. You will be the talk of the block!!!
Never made or ate bread pudding before in my life. Came across this recipe in the magazine and thought in would be a good dessert to take to a family get together for Thanksgiving. Everyone raved over how good it was. It was so moist and delicious and the icing was to die for. This will be something I make time and time again. Love it!
