Wonderful dish to prepare for a special occasion! For the past three Valentine’s Days, I’ve made my partner this recipe, and he can’t get enough of it! It’s incredibly quick and simple to broil!

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Additional Time: 8 hrs
Total Time: 8 hrs 30 mins
Servings: 2
Yield: 2 steaks

Ingredients

  1. 2 medium onions, sliced
  2. ½ pound sliced fresh mushrooms
  3. ⅓ cup olive oil
  4. ⅓ cup white vinegar
  5. 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  6. 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  7. 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  8. ½ teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
  9. 2 (5 ounce) rib-eye steaks

Instructions

  1. Combine onions, mushrooms, olive oil, vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and pepper in a medium bowl. Place steaks in a gallon-sized zip-top bag. Pour other ingredients over steaks. Seal and refrigerate, 8 hours to overnight.
  2. Set an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven’s broiler. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil; place steaks on top.
  3. Broil steaks until hot and slightly pink in the center, about 8 minutes per side.
  4. While steaks are broiling, pour onions, mushrooms, and remaining marinade into a saucepan. Simmer over medium-low heat until steaks are cooked. Serve sauce, onions, and mushrooms over steaks.

My only issue with this recipe was the way it was broiled. I used very large rib eye steaks and it made a mess of my oven broiling it on a baking sheet. I love the marinade and the topping.

This turned out good and the flavor was delicious. I do however think this would be a 5 star if you grilled the steaks instead of broil. I will do that next time and there will be a next time because the flavor was delicious!
