Ingredients

  1. 1 1/4 pounds ground beef (80-percent lean)
  2. Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  3. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  4. 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella
  5. 4 English muffins, halved horizontally and toasted
  6. 1 tomato, sliced and lightly salted
  7. Perfect Basil Sauce, recipe follows
  8. 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan
  9. 1 green onion, chopped
  10. 3 tablespoons roughly chopped fresh basil
  11. 1 large clove garlic, minced
  12. 1/2 cup prepared mayonnaise
  13. 3 tablespoons sour cream
  14. 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  15. Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Quarter the beef into even portions. Form into burgers, indenting the middle slightly with your thumb. Season with salt and pepper, and brush lightly with vegetable oil. Cook on a hot grill until charred on the outside and pink on the inside, about 4 minutes per side. Two minutes before removing the burgers, top the burgers with the mozzarella cheese.
  2. Place the toasted muffins on a serving platter. Place the tomato slices on the bottom, and top each with cooked patties. Spread a tablespoon or two of the basil sauce on each bun top and sprinkle with a little Parmesan cheese. Serve extra basil sauce on the side for dipping.
  3. Blend the green onion, basil, garlic, mayonnaise, sour cream, and Worcestershire sauce in a blender until creamy and pale green. Taste the sauce and season with salt and pepper, if needed.

Not bad at all.

This was a good burger;however, I didn’t have that “wow” feeling from it. The basil sauce was tasty. Next time, I’m going to add something to the burger meat itself – not sure what that would be yet. But again, a good tasting burger that I would make again.

Awesome.

I made the basil sauce, while my husband did his own thing with the burgers. The sauce is absolutely yummy, with the basil and garlic really shining through. It’ like a sauce you’d get on a $10 burger at a restaurant, but so easy to do at home! I did substitute fat-free sour cream because we don’t keep mayo in the house.

Wow, this was super. The basil sauce was outstanding, assuming you like basil and garlic.

Oh my, these were sooo good!!! One of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time! The garlic sauce is the best – just full of flavor and so darn good!!! I wouldn’t change a single thing about this recipe!

Burger-loving teenage boys LOVED this recipe, and it introduced them to basil. Easy to prep and everyone gave this recipe an A.
