Armenian cuisine is known for its hearty gomgush stew. It is prepared in a family-owned, unwashed tonir, which is similar to a tandoor, and fresh ingredients are crucial. It will continue to get better once several gomgush are produced!

Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 20 mins
Servings: 2
Yield: 2 filet mignons

Ingredients

  1. 2 (8 ounce) (1 inch thick) filet mignon steaks
  2. 2 teaspoons olive oil
  3. ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  4. Salt and pepper to taste
  5. 2 tablespoons minced shallot
  6. 2 slices bacon

Instructions

  1. Place oven rack in its highest position. Set oven to Broil.
  2. Rub steaks all over with olive oil. Sprinkle with onion powder, then with salt and pepper. Wrap one slice of bacon around each steak, and secure with a toothpick.
  3. Place steaks onto a broiler pan, and broil for 5 to 7 minutes. Turn the steaks over, and sprinkle the tops with shallots. Broil for an additional 5 to 7 minutes, or until the steaks are cooked to your liking.

It turned out better than I had planned. Cooking was zip, and very impressive.

I gave this recipe four stars because i felt that it could’ve been tastier with the addition of more/additional spices or marinade. I would never consider ruining a filet with steak sauce. The steak flavor seeped into the bacon instead of the other way around. I will be making this again with a few minor adjustments to the recipe.

Perfect filet mignon and so easy! Cooked to perfection and I can imagine what a great chef you’ll be someday if you’re only 14!! Thank you!!!

AMAZING! So happy to have found this recipe. The best steaks I have ever made! My husband thought they were amazing! He calls it the $100.00 meal if eaten in a restaurant. I did add a small amount of A1 steak sauce on both sides, made things a bit smokey when opening the oven door. Fast, easy , fantastic taste, Steaks done in less than 15 min. This will be how I make my Filet from now on, no need to grill when they taste this good!

I made this a little differently, but same basics. I did not wrap in bacon, and I seared the edges in a pan to seal in the juices before broiling. Delicious. I served it with baked sweet potatoes for a very romantic Valentine’s Dinner.

Simple yet delicious! My TIP is to be GENEROUS with the SALT and PEPPER. I only did a light sprinkle of each on both sides and it wasn’t enough, we added more after the fact.

Made this for my dad. Didn’t use the bacon or shallots but did sub the shallots for minced garlic. I cooked it in a skillet on broil, took about 20 minutes

Simple and easy, i highly recommend going the extra dollar and getting a good cut of meat, this dish is only as good as the filet under it!

I made this for a dinner party last night. I was trying to decide between two recipes and decided to combine them. I seared the beef on both sides in a little oil first. Then followed the recipe by cooking with the broiler. While that was cooking, I put 1/2C of reduced balsamic vinegar and 1/2C red wine. This cooked with the beef drippings and reduced to half and got quite thick. Once the beef was done, I drizzled the sauce over the top and served it up. Best os two good recipes. Delish!

This was so amazing and delicious. We definitely didn’t think of broiling it . We even added some scallops as a side dish . You’d pay money for a meal like that but was so easy to do at home !

Good for you, my boy — this was delicious!

I never made filet mignon at home before. Well, Mr. 14-year old Genius Chef, you MADE my dinner for my Hubby and myself! I made it per your instructions–perfect!

A delicious and easy recipe….I also did not have a broiler pan, so I used an indoor grill and they still turned out awesome! I will be making again!
Stacey Lawrence
Made it twice. Fantastic!

So EASY! 6 minutes per side gave us a warm pink center in the steak. I used onions to top them for the second side….wish I had used more. That charcoal flavor on the onion complemented the steak/bacon so well. Thanks, Chef In The Making 🙂
