Ingredients
- 1 fully cooked ham, bone-in (18 to 20 pounds)
- Whole cloves
- 3 cups brown sugar
- 1/2 cup spicy brown mustard
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 can soda, such as Dr Pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
- Score the surface of the ham about 1/8-inch deep in a diamond pattern. Insert a clove into the middle of each diamond.
- Bake the ham for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, or longer depending on package directions.
- Heat the brown sugar, mustard, vinegar and soda in a small saucepan until bubbly. Cook until thick, about 15 minutes.
- After 2 hours of baking time, brush the glaze on the ham in 20-minute intervals until nice and glossy.

In the video she mentions ginger ale in the written recipe it says Dr.Pepper? Confused.
Don’t follow the video!!!! Follow the written recipe. FN originally posted this recipe years ago with a different how-to-video from Ree that matched the recipe exactly and it couldn’t have been any more DELICIOUS!! I saved that recipe then but over the years, FN attached an updated version that uses honey. This video recipe is no where as delicious as the original recipe video.
Ham came out awesome! I had a spiral sliced ham, so I did not use whole cloves but added a pinch of clove spice to glaze. Still fabulous!
I accidentally bought ground cloves so I improvised. I used ground cloves as a rub after scoring. Made the sauce with coke. Delicious, delicious.
Loved this glaze for ham! It really complemented the saltiness of the ham terrifically! I will definitely be using this again and again and again!
This recipe has because a ham staple in our home. We use this for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and any other chance we get! I often use Coca-Cola instead of Dr Pepper. We’ve even tried Root Beer. All were great!
So easy. So delicious. My hubby and I finished a 10lb ham in, like, a week. Lol. The the diamond shapes where you cut end up tasting like ham candy, sooo good
I got a 10lb semi-boneless, smoked, non-spiraled ham. Didn’t use the cloves, but followed the remainder of the recipe. I did add into the bottom of the roasting pan 1/4″ water. Wonderful! My biggest tip is to make like five times the glaze–it is so good and ready for leftovers for a few days! Thank you Ree–always spot on!
I made this ham according to directions from the video. The glaze ingredients in the video are different than the written recipe. The video glaze ingredients call for 1 cup honey, 1/4 cup grainy brown mustard, 1 can ginger ale, and splash of apple cider vinegar. It was amazing! I don’t know why the written recipe is different. I suggest following video to make this. It was a Christmas dinner hit in our home!
