Hoisin, a sweet and salty Chinese condiment, is more commonly paired with pork, but here, it brings richness to simple baked chicken.

Ingredients

  1. Vegetable cooking spray
  2. 4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (about 2 pounds)
  3. Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  4. 3/4 cup hoisin sauce (8 1/2 ounce jar)
  5. 1 bunch broccoli, stems thinly sliced and top cut into large florets (1 pound, 5 ounces)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and spray a baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Put the chicken in the baking dish and season with salt and pepper. Pour the hoisin sauce over the chicken and turn the chicken to coat evenly. Bake until opaque and cooked through, about 18 to 20 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, pour an inch or more of water in a skillet or wok and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Place the broccoli stems in a bamboo or collapsible steamer. Set the steamer over the boiling water, cover, and cook 2 to 3 minutes. Add the florets and continue to cook just until the vegetables are crisp tender and bright green, 2 to 3 minutes more. Season with the salt and pepper.
  4. Divide the chicken and broccoli among 4 plates and serve.

This recipe was alright…..the flavor is very strong, and I like hoisin sauce. On its own, it’s overwhelming. It seems a little tweaking could help because the sauce is good, just too much. Maybe some ginger, chicken broth, something, I don’t know. It does get an extra star for being incredibly easy to make. I used chicken tenders.

This recipe was hands-down gross. I could not even eat the chicken. This recipe call for WAY TOO MUCH hoisin sauce. The only decent part was the broccoli that had not been touched by the sauce. My advice, SKIP IT!

The recipe called for 3/4 cup hoisin sauce to put on the chicken but i would only put like 1/2 cup if i made it again. Their was soooo much sauce left over even after we poured it over the veggies. Otherwise it was easy and tasty!

The chicken was good. The kids weren’t too fond of the Hoisin but they still ate it.

I’m not really a fan of hoisin sauce, but I had some leftover in the fridge that I needed to use, and I thought I’d give this one a shot. It turned out really well, and the family (including the picky 4 year old) really liked it.
