Ingredients
- 4 slices thick-cut bacon, roughly chopped
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- Two 15-ounce cans Great Northern, navy, cannellini or white beans
- 1/3 cup ketchup
- 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Put the bacon in a large, cold skillet and cook over medium heat until the fat renders and the bacon is almost crisp, about 8 minutes. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes. Add 1 of the cans of beans with their liquid. Drain and rinse the remaining beans, then add them to the skillet. Add the ketchup, sugar, mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire, 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a low simmer, then transfer to a small baking dish. Bake uncovered until thickened and bubbly, about 50 minutes. Serve warm.

Love this recipe. I wonder if you could put them in the smoker along with the ribs.
Best recipe ever! So easy! I double the bacon. You can’t go wrong with more bacon! In todays economy it is so wallet friendly. You would have all the ingredients already in your pantry. My husband wants them as a side with everything. I usually double the recipe and put it in a 9x 13, if you are feeding more than 4 people. Great as leftovers ( if you have any). Thanks Val!
Absolutely killer. Wanted baked beans for a small 4th of July party. I’m diabetic so really can’t eat these nor do much tasting while cooking to make adjustments. So found this recipe that looked delicious and just went ahead and followed it. Huge success – everyone loved them (my one bite was fantastic) and would have been happy to take home leftovers. Unfortunately, there were none, but everyone took home the recipe. Note: the thick bacon is a 100% must. I started using it in cooking a few years ago and have never looked back.
Easy to make and delicious!
Skip the canned baked beans and make these homemade ones instead!! You control the amount of sugar in the recipe, and sometimes I leave out the bacon for a vegetarian option. These beans are so good. They are usually the highlight of my BBQ meal, great with burgers, hot dogs, steak, or chicken! Try these baked beans today!!
This recipe is just like momma’s recipe and our family raves over it sometimes since she’s no longer with us. I sometimes add seasoned ground beef to it or diced brisket.
I’m sorry I did add the brown sugar, and the rest of ingredients. I also cooked up 1/4 cup of sasuage,1/4 cup of onions & 1/4 cup of green pepper. Tasted the mix before it went in oven.Very tasty.Hope it turns out good. I think it will!
Baked to go as a side with ham for Easter Brunch. Lots of compliments!!!
I didn’t have bacon although I used 1/4 lb of venison breakfast sausage. Everything else went in according to recipe. So delicious!
This recipe is really good with cannelini beans, no need to start fooling with everything, just do the recipe and enjoy !
