Ingredients

  1. 12 slices bacon (about 8 ounces)
  2. Vegetable oil, as needed
  3. 3/4 cup popcorn kernels
  4. 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
  5. 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  6. Kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until crisp. Drain on paper towels, then crumble finely. Pour the fat from the skillet into a spouted measuring cup. Add vegetable oil as needed to make 1/4 cup fat; if there is more than 1/4 cup bacon fat, pour off the extra. Set the skillet aside.
  2. Pour the bacon fat into a stockpot (12-quart or larger) over medium heat. Add a few popcorn kernels; when they begin to sizzle, add the remaining kernels and shake to coat in the oil. Cover the pot and cook, shaking frequently, until the popping has almost stopped (a pop every second or two), about 5 minutes. Remove the pot from the heat and keep covered.
  3. In the skillet used for the bacon, melt the butter and maple syrup over medium-low heat, stirring to loosen any browned bits on the bottom of the skillet. Stir in the crumbled bacon and then pour the mixture over the popcorn; toss well to coat all of the kernels. Season with salt and toss again. Serve immediately.

My teenaged son LOVES popcorn and is in love with this recipe. He ended up posting a SnapChat about how delicious it is! LOL. My daughter loves it too – and she doesn’t even typically eat popcorn. My hubby and I are also fans! Thank you, Ayesha! The popcorn is so good that we decided to have an impromptu movie “night” on a Sunday afternoon — during football season. Any recipe that pulls my hubby and son away from the NFL on a Sunday afternoon is indeed a keeper!

I also watched this episode with my kids and we all wanted to try the Maple Bacon Popcorn.  I ended up making a batch for the first time for my son’s 9th birthday party.  He and his friends LOVED this popcorn recipe, and it was so easy to make I was able to get it done during the party so that they could have it hot and fresh.  Great job, Ayesha!!

My husband doesn’t like sweet popcorn but he loved this popcorn. Declicious and easy! I took a short cut, removed the bacon first and used the same quart pot I cooked the bacon in just added the additional oil in and then the kernels.  Next, I melted the butter and mapple syrup in the microwave and poured it over. Seriously, so good! I will definitely make this again.
