Ingredients
- One 16-ounce flank steak
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 3 cups plus 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons vegetable oil, plus more for frying
- 5 ounces cooked rice noodles
- 1 tablespoon ground garlic
- 3/4 cup (3/4-inch long) scallion slices, green and white parts
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 teaspoons soy sauce
Instructions
- Trim the fat of the flank steak and cut into thin pieces against the grain. Marinate the meat for 1 hour in a mix of egg, cornstarch, and 2 tablespoons oil.
- In large wok, cook the rice noodles in 2 inches of hot oil for just a few seconds, or until they puff up. Drain the noodles and set to the side. Heat up the wok again with 3 cups of oil to 350 degrees F and add the cut up flank steak. Stir for 3 to 4 minutes, and then remove from the heat and drain well.
- Heat the wok up again and add 2 teaspoons oil, ground garlic, all the cut up scallions, and the marinated beef. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Now add the sugar, black pepper, and soy sauce and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from the heat and serve over the rice noodles.

Absolutely amazing!! (Though I made it with rice)
Recipe is ok. I added some oyster sauce, red chili sauce, and a small amount of Chinese 5 spice to add a little something. The sugary soy sauce wasn’t doing it for me. All in all, after adding some spices to it, it came together ok, however my husband loved it.
Just as I remembered it at Pagoda in North Pole Alaska. I would definitely say the best Mongolian beef I’ve ever had. I have been searching for this recipe for years, glad I found it.
Love the show keep up the good work!!
Made this recipe tonight but I substituted with white rice instead of rice noodles. Hubby and I enjoyed it. Meat was slightly on the sweet side and hubby doesn’t much care for sweet meat but he liked this recipe. Will make again but will add veggies to make the recipe more dimensional. Do have to say that the marinade for the meat makes it super tender and yummy.
I lived in North Pole for 30+ years. Benny’s Mongolian beef is the absolute best!!!
Tried several recipes and this is the best I have ever found. My daughter is crazy about it.
I wanted the recipe for the Walnut Shrimp. How can we get it? This lacked flavor and was not the way the Chef actually made this. Left out ingredients
This so close to the original recipe. We go to Pagota a lot love their food. When I cook it at home this is how I make it
Nothing like I’ve ever tasted! Ended up adding some oyster sauce, Szechwan chili sauce and sesme oil and ground chili garlic for a kick. I’m totally amazed that such a recipe is on your site! Very disappointing
