Ingredients

  1. 1 pound broccoli florets
  2. 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  3. 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  4. 2 teaspoons cornstarch, divided
  5. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  6. 1 pound flank steak
  7. 1/3 cup beef or chicken stock
  8. 2 teaspoons rice wine
  9. 1/4 cup oyster sauce
  10. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  11. 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Microwave the broccoli in a glass bowl covered with plastic wrap (holes poked for ventilation), about 1 to 2 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, 1 teaspoon cornstarch and baking soda. Slice the beef against the grain into thin strips and add it to your marinade. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes, or as long as overnight in the refrigerator.
  3. In a separate small bowl, stir together the stock, rice wine, oyster sauce and remaining 1 teaspoon cornstarch until the cornstarch is fully dissolved.
  4. Heat a wok or large skillet on high heat and add the oil. When a wisp of white smoke appears, toss the marinated beef and garlic into the pan. Cook for about 1 minute, continually moving the beef so it browns on all sides but is still rare. Once the beef is seared, add the broccoli and cook for an additional minute. Stir in the sauce and keep it all moving. Don’t be afraid to scrape any bits off the bottom of the pan before they start to burn. Once the sauce has turned into a nice thick glaze, about 1 minute, serve immediately.

Quick and easy and it tasted like it came from our local Chinese takeout restaurant. Husband wanted more garlic but it looks like others did too! This is a keeper!

Amazing recipe. Only minor edit I made was doubling the garlic only because I love extra garlic.

Step 3 shows what to do with the stock for those of you who didn’t see it. It’s not in bold type, but it’s there . I added fresh ginger and more garlic . Served over steamed jasmine rice

So quick and easy. Flank steak was incredibly tender. Delicious combination of flavors, so more will be better. Next time,I will be doubling up on the sauce. I might also try some review suggestions for an extra a lil flavor boost, like doubling the garlic (maybe adding some to the marinade), and may try a dash of red pepper flakes.

I added red pepper flakes to spice up the flavour and more garlic. Replaced vegetable oil with olive oil much healthier. As well replaced soy sauce and oyster sauce with a soy sauce substitute and Worcestershire sauce, this reduced sodium to make it more heart healthy

It pains me to write this, but this recipe is very bland and disappointing. The ingredient list calls for beef broth, but the instructions don’t mention it at all. I feel like maybe this recipe was transcribed improperly. The only saving grace is that it tasted a tiny bit better the next day, however the broccoli didn’t stay crisp. I won’t be making this again.

Tasty dish but I feel like it was missing something.

Used sake for rice wine and chicken broth. Only subs I used but this turned out 5/5!!
