Yield: 4 to 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 2 sticks (1 cup) salted butter, plus more for greasing the pan
  2. 2 Granny Smith apples
  3. Two 8-ounce cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
  4. 1 1/2 cups sugar
  5. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  6. 8 ounces citrus-flavored soda, such as Mountain Dew (two-thirds of a 12-ounce can)
  7. Cinnamon, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 9-by-13-inch pan.
  2. Peel and core the apples, then cut each into 8 slices. Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll piece, then transfer to the prepared pan.
  3. Melt the butter in a saucepan, then add the sugar and barely stir. Add the vanilla and stir slightly, then pour the entire mixture over the apples. Pour the citrus soda around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake until golden brown and crispy on top, about 40 minutes.
  4. Serve, spooning some of the sweet sauces from the pan over the top.

Made them a few years back when I first saw them on her show…a huge hit that tastes homemade. I do use Sprite because there’s usually some at our house and it was fabulous!!!

These are sooo delicious! I added cinnamon before rolling them up. I also had some extra apple that I diced up and just put in the pan around the dumplings. Even my brother-in-law who doesn’t like too many sweets with fruit liked them as well as my whole family! I used Mt. Dew but the next time may use Sprite.

I halved the recipe and baked it in an 8×8 pyrex. Absolutely fabulous! I chopped and additional honey crisp apple into the pan before adding the apple rolls. Worthy for Thanksgiving!

I made 1/2 the recipe since it was just for my husband and I. It’s a cold day outside and this fits the bill! (It was still double what we needed.) This is so good! I didn’t expect something this easy to taste so good!! I’d like to try it with peaches sometime as well?!! We recommend everyone try it! Yum!!
