It’s really delicious!! I made it for a dinner party and served it with vanilla ice cream and everyone loved it!! The only thing I changed: I baked it at 375 covered for 40 minutes, then uncovered for 15 minutes, and it was perfect!!
i made this today. after reading reviews i was not so sure. but i used 4 bags of oatmeal, butter, walnuts and some brown sugar on top,did not cover, cooked for one hour on 375 in a pie pan, it was delish, did not have icecream, toocold to go out, but will next time ,it was crunchy, and just good. had company and they also enjjed it.
Why in god’s name would anyone make this? You could plainly see that the oatmeal was going to be repulsive. Why not make a real crumble topping with rolled oats, sugar, and melted butter? Oh wait, that’s real food–I forgot that Sandra Lee doesn’t cook real food. She assembles chemicals.
I saw the show today. I have used prepacked oatmeal apple and cinnamon, added flour and sugar to my apple crisp receipe for years. This looks easy and surely a shortcut. Also, a little extra butter for me.
Flavor – so so. Texture – lousy
I own one of Sandra Lee’s slow cooker recipe book which features this version of Apple Raisin Betty. Between the hit & miss reviews on this site & some of the so-so results of the recipes in her book, I dreaded making this dessert. Surprisingly, this turned out to be a tasty, comfort-style food. It’s not fancy, but it is delicious.
Don’t expect a crispy texture since the very nature of a slow cooker steams the ingredients so you will not get the firmness of a baked apple crisp. I used canned apples which are sweeter than I prefer but I balanced it with a small dollop of fat free whipped cream instead of ice cream.
I was a little afraid to try this after reading some of the reviews here but it was a great, easy recipe. I made it for a dinner party and we all thought it tasted good. The topping wasn’t crunchy, but we didn’t wish that it was. This is great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We cooked it for 50 mins. covered with foil and didn’t have any burnt raisin problems.
Oatmeal did not mix well the the apples, who wants a desert with uncooked oatmeal sitting on top? I expected better.. in the trash it goes. I am glad I had not planned this for desert with friends over for dinner.. Best to try first. If you like this congratulations,
wife doesn’t like hot fruit this was so good with ice cream know i make more often thanks its great !
This recipe was tasteless and borderline inedible! No one finished their bowl and we threw the leftovers away.
