These delicious turkey sausage balls have become my new go-to snack or breakfast item. They are based on a recipe for pork sausage balls that is similar. They receive a 5-star rating from myself and my family.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 35 mins
Servings: 36
Yield: 36 balls

Ingredients

  1. 1 pound ground turkey sausage
  2. 2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  3. 1 tablespoon Montreal steak seasoning
  4. 1 teaspoon fennel seeds, crushed (Optional)
  5. 2 cups baking mix (such as Bisquick®)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix sausage, Cheddar, steak seasoning, and fennel seeds together by hand in a large bowl. Mix in 1/2 of the baking mix until thoroughly incorporated; repeat with remaining baking mix. Roll 1-tablespoon portions of mixture into balls. Place onto the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until browned, 20 to 25 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).

I am marking this with 5 stars, only because this is a great base for the meatballs. I did however change 1 thing. I used only 1 cup of Bisquick, because I felt this had too much of it from the start. I want to taste the sausage and not bread. It turned out spectacular.

Not sure why but mine ended up very powdery and falling apart. The flavor certainly isn’t bad though

These were just delicious. I made one small change…added a Tbsp red pepper flakes in place of fennel. We always add Montreal Steak Seasoning to our turkey burgers, but never thought of it on sausage. Added flavor is awesome!
