Been making these for years and they are amazing everytime. I double the recipe but otherwise follow it as listed.

I also added1/4 c ketchup and used corn starch and they were delicious over rice Husband even liked and he is very finicky
William Sharp
I thought these were wonderful. Had them over rice. The only thing that I did differently was to cook the meatballs in the oven. Then I put them in the pot.

I was out of soy sauce so I used hoisin. I would have added frozen veggies and pineapple if I had thought ahead.

I tried making this with Beyond Beef. Some words of caution; 1) Do NOT use so much onion (or omit it all together). I took it down to a cup and it was way too much and the meatballs didn’t hold together during frying. I would also omit the egg. Next time I will try baking the meatballs instead of frying. My roommate does this and they tend to turn out way more solid. In the end I just crushed up the fakey meat and finished frying it and added to the sauce per the recipe. It’s tastes pretty good over rice. I think the recipe is fine and I’d make it again. Just a veiggie cooking live and learn sort of experience. lol. If you use the crushed pineapple as one user suggested below (which I did and it worked out well) make sure to decrease the amount of liquid by like 1/4 to 1/2 a cup depending on how much liquid is in the can of pineapple you’re using. I also used Apple Cider Vinegar instead of white. I like the taste better.

This recipe was really good. Everyone in my family liked it. I did add about 1 teaspoon of brown sugar.
Gary Matthews
Pretty good recipe, I add crushed pineapple with the juice and a pinch of ginger. Also, I brown my onions before I add them to the meatball mixture. It adds a better depth of flavor, trust me!

This is my Sweet & Sour recipe as well. One thing I do differently, I bake the meatballs in the oven first. Then, the sauce is poured over the meatballs and baked for an additional 15 minutes just to incorporate the sauce to the meatballs. SOOOOOO good!!! OH… and what Kayyachell said, I too make a cornstarch slurry rather than flour.
Robert Schmidt
DO NOT!!! add flour unless you want little clumpy balls of flour that won’t dissolve. Use Cornstarch instead. Third to half as much as the flour here. So appx 1 and 1/4 TBSP cornstarch. Add it to a bit of warm water to make a slurry then add it in. Done.

Great recipe. I ran out of brown sugar. So subbed white sugar and 1 tbsp of molasses. I used red wine vinegar instead, used beef stock instead of water, I added 1/2 tsp of dry mustard and to the meatballs I added garlic salt, paprika and pepper. Awesome recipe! This will be my regular.

I haven’t tried making the meatballs I cheat and use the Frozen pre-made kind but this is one of the best sweet and sour recipes for sauce and easiest that I’ve ever made and my kids love it too!
James Anderson
Great taste, easy to whip up, makes lots of sauce.
Melissa Griffith
I made it as the recipe, I had family over for tea had with mash potatoes and vegetables they loved it so much they took the recipes with them, so easy and very tasty.
Sean Mcdonald
One cup of chopped onion would be plenty. I used big sweet onion and had to double the recipe on the fly. Also added salt and pepper while browning. Otherwise delicious, glad I made it.
Colleen Haynes
I didnt follow exactly had to use what I had so used Apple Cider vinegar no flour but the sauce was delicious. Ive made these meatball for decades and they are always good whichever recipe you use.
Matthew Griffin
I only made the Sweet n Sour sauce but it was delicious. My boys can be particularly picky with what they eat but they both cleared their plates!

Made this last night. Yum!! Very easy. A couple minor changes : *To thicken, I mixed cornstarch with pineapple juice and stirred in before adding meatballs. *Anytime I make me tballs or meatloaf, I always sautée my Walla Walla sweet onions and minced garlic before mixing it into the burger. I find it enhances the flavors and no hard bits of onion! My husband generally isn’t wild about eating new recipes, as he has his favored dishes – doesn’t like change!! I get bored and throw in something new every once in a while. When I do this, I have to ask if he likes it. After his first bite, he says “wow, this is really good”. Guess what’s for dinner tonight?!!! Leftovers!! So so so good! Will add chunks of pineapple and bell peppers next time I make this. Thank you for a new husband favorite in the meal rotation!!

This is a fool proof recipe! My daughter requests these at least once a week. So simple & so easy & tastes great! You can’t go wrong with this recipe!
Christopher Olson
Allrecipes is my go to when I am looking for a recipe and I have had great results. This recipe missed the mark in my opinion. WAY too sweet. I made it yesterday and definitely should have tasted as I was cooking. Got up today and remade it with less than half the amount of brown sugar and while it’s better, it’s still pretty sweet! Taste as you go if you try this recipe!
Laura Mills
It was delicious bot I used less red onion and I broiled the meatballs for 5 minutes to brown them because in the frying pan they we’re cooking unevenly even with turning them.
Anthony Maldonado
Added a can of chunked pineapple and the can of juice together theflavour I waslooking for
