For half of them I used a mandolin to get very thin slices more like chips & much preferred those to the thicker ones but some stuck to the foil. The thick (1/4”) ones I baked longer to crisp them up more. Flavour is good, the cayenne certainly adds some kick.
I used a mandolin to slice them thin, cooked 10 minutes per side and they were still very soft! Good flavor, but not really chips.
Delicious!! Love the kick! I did not add any salt.
These are pretty good. After cooking I threw them in the microwave for about a minute to crisp up the soft centers. They will get crispier as they cool.
Didn’t make any changes except adding a tad bit more cayenne pepper. Really good.
This is a quick easy snack. I love the heat at the end of the bite!
I didn’t change anything, iwill make again
These were terrific! And if you’re like me and hate the mess of turning them over, spray olive oil on a piece of tin foil lining the pan and bake. When ready to turn, place another piece of new tin foil over the fries, tuck the edges into the first foil wrapper temporarily, flip and remove the original sheet of foil then complete baking. Works great and easy to clean up!
I was looking for another way to use sweet potatoes and this is a quick and easy recipe and very tasty!
Instead of the cayenne, I used tumeric and cinnamon! Delicious!
I bought 3 yams to make my fries. Decided to just use 1. After tasting the first batch, ended up using all of them. Very tasty! Will definitely make the again.
Very tasty even my non sweet potato eaters liked it. They just weren’t crispy.
I will make these again. Mine were not crispy, but they all were eaten.
YUM! Couldn’t stop eating them. My husband would make them more spicy, but I thought they were perfect.
I loved them! Couldn’t stop eating! You have to cut them really thin to get them crispy, but not bad when thicker.
Need to experiment more with this. I used a mandolin slicer at 1/8 inch. If they were uneven slices they burn on the edge that was thin. The slices did not get chip-like but I think I brushed the oil mix on too thick and made them soggy. I want to slice them thicker and let them cook longer as they dry out from cooking and get thinner. This may allow me to cook long enough to get crisp.
I love this recipe.. I have made it several times, soo easy & a great flavour..
These “Spicy Sweet Potato Chips” were fabulous! I left out the maple syrup because we don’t like sweet food in our home. I can hardly wait to make these again! Next time I will be inclined to add a few more spices because we like spicy food in our home. Thanks JENNYWRITES for sharing your recipe!
I used half the amount of cayenne pepper which was enough for us. The flavor was very good, however although I increased the baking time, it needed much more time. I ended up putting it back in the oven and baking for an additional 20 minutes, turning them over once again until lightly browned. I never quite got the consistency I was hoping for, but they were good.
Lisa LOVED them!
These were delicious! I’d put less time in both sides as they burned
