I reduced the prep time by using the Costco Teriyaki meatballs. Very good recipe! Even though I added more vegetables.
Great! I doubled the recipe. I used quite a bit less sugar because I don’t like things too sweet. I added hot pepper flakes. I used fresh pineapple and juiced two cups for the recipe. Oh I also added celery for crunch.
The first time I tried it my husband loved it. Glad to have found another way to prepare meatballs.
This was a fantastic recipe! The entire family enjoyed eating this dish and I am so glad that I made extra servings. This dish will certainly be in the family rotation of meals. Thank you for your submission.
This is definitely a keeper. I doubled the sauce so we had a sauce with the mashed potatoes I made with this.
Everything was really good except the meatballs. I am going to try the recipe again with some sauteed shrimp. Probably be a lot easier, and better.
Although I added ginger, lemon, more salt, and garlic powder, I still found the meatballs and sauce bland. I’ll look for a different sweet and sour recipe next time I want to make meatballs.
This was great. Made it for a pot luck and it was the first to go. I’m glad I read the reviews because I followed someone’s suggestion and added Worcestershire to the meat and I think that’s what made them “pop”
We really enjoyed this recipe served over rice. I had some leftover meatballs to use up from another recipe, so I just made the sauce and veggie combo as listed here (with the addition of some broccoli to the mix). I did sautee the vegetables before adding everything into the sauce mixture. Overall, the recipe has a nice flavor to it. I made this looking for something different, but I ended up with a recipe that I’ll definitely be making often. Thanks for sharing!
I made this last night and it was pretty good. I recommend cutting all the veggies first to keep the cooking time down to a minimum. I used 1 lb. of ground beef & 1 lb. of lean ground turkey which kept the meatballs moist. I forgot to take into account that I added more meat which left us lacking the sauce, mmmm so good, I used brown sugar instead of white. I had to make it a little on the plain side for my picky eaters so no peppers & no onion. Next time I think I’ll add some chili & a little garlic to the sauce & definitely double on the sauce recipe. Overall it was good. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
This by far was one of my favorite recipes that I have prepared from this site. I followed the recipe almost exactly as written. Changes I made were I baked the meatballs as one of the reviewers noted and I added green onions and a bit of bread crumbs to the ground beef. ooh I also doubled the sauce as one reviewer said. It tastes so great over the rice. I would give this recipe more stars if I could!!
Another great use for hamburger. This turned out very good. My family really enjoyed this dish. I used dried minced onion in the meatballs. I sauteed the onion and the green pepper strips with the meatballs just before I poured the sauce over. I used rice vinegar. My husband isn’t a pineapple fan, so he just picked the meatballs out of the sauce, but even he enjoyed this dish. I’ll keep this recipe in my file, thanks so much! UPDATE 4-2011: I fixed this using fresh minced onion in the meatballs, added a little panko bread crumbs to the beef, I used canned pineapple and the juice from the can, didn’t have carrot and tossed in the onion and some diced green pepper from the freezer (still frozen) in to the sauce and cooked it a few minutes. Awesome recipe! Super Easy.
Very good. I used ground turkey instead of beef much better not so heavy
**** My husband really flipped for this recipe. It will be permantly added to our family recipes.
This was something diffrent to make and it turned out really good. I do agree with some other reviewers that the meatballs could be a little better, but it is a great start. Next time I’m just gonna make the sauce and veggies and use shrimp or chicken for my meat.
OMG…so good and so easy. Even my 7 year old cleaned her plate, and my husband had to step away from the table because he couldn’t stop eating. Would also be good with chicken or pork. This is definitely going in our regular rotation!
perfect kid friendly recipe. wouldn’t change a thing. my whole picky family loved it.
I made this recipe almost as is and my husband and I loved it. I will definitely make again. I didn’t see the need for the oil – so I omitted that and I steamed the veggies a bit before adding to the sauce because we prefer them a bit softer. Next time I may try to reduce the amount of sugar. We watch our calories and 1 cup is a lot of sugar. But overall excellent recipe and will definitely make again.
Absolutely awseome! You can double the sauce as most here have suggested, or use half pork, half beef, (that’s what I did…excellent) but whatever you do, make it! Your loved ones will think you’ve become a chef! (I know mine did…..now to live up to this ..hmmmmmm) LOVED IT!! Rob
Very, very good! I used red peppers because they were on sale and threw in some broccoli that I had on hand. It was very colorful and really tasty. I will definately make this again and will try it with chicken soon. My stepdaughter couldn’t believe it was homemade except she said she knew it was better than any of the local restaurants! Thanks QUIKSMYLE!!
This was fairly good. I made 2 batches. 1st batch had way to much sweet and sour sauce and not quite enough of everything else. So the 2nd batch was made with this adjustment..increased ground beef to 2lbs and 1 addtional egg and 1 tsp minced garlic. Increase pineapple juice just to 1 1/3 cup, decresased vinegar to 2 tbsp, pineapple to 2 cups, 2 bell peppers, 1 whole carrot and 1 whole onion. And that worked very nicely. That’s how I remember sweet and sour meatballs when I lived in Guam.
