People adore this fantastic, simple recipe. For as long as I can remember, our family has made it for get-togethers. Guacamole, cheese, a seasoned sour cream combination, and veggies are placed on top of refried beans. Along with tortilla chips, serve it. Enjoy!

Childhood classic for pitch in’s! The only thing I do differently is add a layer of chopped green chilis (canned). Love the flavor it adds with no extra heat! Pair with Fritos or tortilla chips!
The first time I made it, I made it exactly by the recipe. It was delicious! Second time, I didn’t have tomatoes, so I used some diced tomatoes from a can of Rotel and also omitted mayo, as I was out. Still perfect! I think mixing the taco seasoning in with sour cream and mayo made all the flavors come together well.
I was looking for Haystack 7-layer dip and this was the one – except omit the mayo – tostito’s scoops are perfect to eat it. I made my own guac – 5 avocados, 1/3 cup fresh lime juice, 1/2 tsp onion, garlic, coriander powder, salt and pepper – 10 grinds of each. We brought to the Christmas party tonight and it was ALL GONE.
Delicious! Made it for a small girls’ night and it was a huge hit. Only thing I changed was dropping the mayo and replacing it with cream cheese.
I made it without mayonnaise and increased the sour cream to compensate. My husband and I ate all of in one afternoon. We’re both pretty fat, but still. I highly recommend it!
Fast and easy recipe for Tex Mex layered dip. I just added a layer of salsa.
Great recipe – I omitted the mayo but otherwise made it exactly as written – a big hit at the Super Bowl party!
Awesome dip! My layers were: refried beans, spicy guacamole, sour cream mixture (1/4 cup cream cheese, 1 cup sour cream and the packaged taco mix), thin layer of cheddar cheese, cilantro, black olives and green onions. This was topped with more cheese and spoonfuls of salsa. Right before serving I squeezed lime juice on top. *I subbed the mayo w/cream cheese after reading multiple other reviews. Served with Tostidos Scoops and Fritos Scoops.
Delicious! I also added jalapenos to the top.
Everyone loved it!
made this for a picnic…have eaten many times first time making it. omitted the mayo and added cream cheese, added lettuce.
Wonderful party dish! I didn’t use mayonnaise but blended 8 oz cream cheese into beans & TASC seasoning for bottom layer
I followed the advice from other reviewers to leave out the mayo. It was very tasty, though next time I might go lighter on the taco seasoning.
Will definitely make it again I added a bit of salsa on top with the tomatoes
Absolutely loved this recipe!! Everyone ate up……so fast and I doubled the recipe!! Don’t add Mayo though as it’s perfect without it!
Easy recipe, and TASTES GREAT! This was a hit at out Christmas party tonight! Thanks for sharing!!
I have made this dip for years and it’s gone when I leave a party! I add black beans to it with the refried beans.
I started making this simple little recipe probably about 5 or 6 years ago now, and it’s become one of my signature dishes everyone asks for! I make it just like the recipe, with one small change. I started adding one more can of refried beans, and i spoon it in little dabs on top of the sour cream layer. When you spread it, it mixes slightly with the sour cream mix and makes it even more tasty, and also more filling!! Then I just top it with the cheese and veggies like normal! I can’t tell you how many events I’ve made it for and its always the first thing to run out (which is why i bring two pans now!)
Great reviews from all the party goers. I used rinsed black beans and seeded the tomatoes so the dip didn’t get soggy.
Awesome!!
This was actually really terrible. What a waste of ingredients.
