Every time my family gets together, I am asked to bring this dish. Because it is so delicious, it always disappears first. Spread the dip onto tortillas or serve it with chips. With guacamole on top, it is fantastic!

Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) container sour cream
- 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1 (1 ounce) package taco seasoning mix
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ground black pepper to taste
- 1 (30 ounce) can refried beans
- 1 (16 ounce) jar salsa
- 1 (16 ounce) jar salsa con queso
- 2 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend
- 1 plum tomato, chopped
- 1 (6 ounce) can sliced black olives, drained
- 3 green onions, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Mix sour cream, cream cheese, and taco seasoning mix together in a bowl.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir beef with the cumin, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease.
- Spread refried beans into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer ground beef mixture over refried beans, lightly pressing beef into beans; top with sour cream mixture.
- Stir salsa and salsa con queso together in a bowl; pour over sour cream mixture layer. Spread Mexican cheese blend, tomato, olives, and green onions, respectively, over sour cream mixture layer.
- Bake in the preheated oven until heated through and bubbling, about 30 minutes.
- Ground turkey can be substituted for ground beef.
- Warming queso for 1 minute in the microwave makes it easier to come out of the jar.

Soupy, but I think that was my fault. I could not bring myself to add a block of cream cheese to the recipe, so I left that out. I also substituted plain yoghurt for the sour cream (did not have sour cream on hand). The flavor was good, but soupy. I will either have to add the cream cheese, or I will cut back on the other liquidy-type ingredients. But – the flavor was really good. I will try this again — a nice change from nachos or tacos.
this is an awesome recipe
This has become my signature Super Bowl party dish. I occasionally add or subtract some things to add variety, for example one thing that I feel like made a big improvement was to top it with some pickled jalpeños in addition to the tomato and olives. Also, although chips like Tostitos are fine and all if you don’t live near a Mexican supermarket; nothing compairs to the taqueria style chips which imo are in a whole different league.
Made it for two different super bowl parties.. folks loved it. What didn’t get eaten on Sunday.. ended up as Tostado Tuesday.
We made our own queso….but OMG this is good!!!!
This was easy to make and SOOO delicious! I made it for a special treat for my kids for Halloween (and added tombstone and spooky tree shapes made from baked tortillas). They gobbled it up so fast. Delicious served with chips! Made per recipe with no substitutions or changes.
I made this for New Year’s Eve, and it was a huge hit!!! I am sure it will now be a family favorite!
made this and everyone loved it! I served it hot out of the oven but would suggest that you let it cool before serving.
Loved this. Made a double batch and used more cheese but either way it was super delicious! Will make again.
Really good stuff. Got lots of complements. I used a smaller pan than what it called for so I think that’s why mine was runny. Definitely recommend using a somewhat thick brand of tortilla chips.
My kids loved it!
Oh my gosh… Everyone loves a Mexican layer dip. But this is the absolute best one I have ever tasted! I’ve made and served this twice and both times I had many compliments and requests for the recipe. Give it a try and see?..
Made this for a potluck and there wasn’t one bite left. Mmmmm – great recipe. Thanks for sharing 🙂
This is delicious, a big hit at parties. I add fresh garlic ( 2 pressed cloves). And I like to experiment with various flavors of salsa and refried beans. Jalepeno adds a nice kick and love the flavor.
just made this for our superbowl get together! delish! it was a hit
I absolutely love this.. it’s my fave and definitely the first to go whenever I bring to an event, some times I put sliced jalapeños for an extra kick and makes great left overs thank you thank you for this amazingly delicious and easy to make meal…nummy nummy 🙂
The 16 year old ‘eaters’ said, “The Piggiest Eaters LOVED this!” It was gone, gone, gone! The ‘Bomb dot Com” was uttered along with the sounds of OH MAN. I think this was a hit!
