I found my way here looking for a way to use stale cereal. I toasted the oat crunch O’s in the toaster oven to crisp it up. I then melted the chocolate with some butter in the microwave in a large glass measuring cup, added the peanut butter, and microwaved again. A large mixing bowl seemed like the best option to combine with the cereal and then moved it to a plastic bag and added the powdered sugar.

great recipe I haven’t had puppy Chow in years I had to add a little extra chocolate wasn’t enough to coat the big bag of checks also side note it’s a lot easier to coat the cereal in a paper bag just put half a cup of powdered sugar in the bag by itself roll it up seal it shake it and put the checks in and repeat 10/10 would definitely make again

When I made this the stores were sold out of regular Chex. I improvised with Honey Nut and peanut butter Chex. There were fewer ounces of cereal since they were special flavors. I had some generic Rice Chex and added the difference. Looking back, I would not add the full amount of cereal. The chocolate peanut butter mix did not coat the cereal as much as I would have liked. It was still very tasty and the confectioners sugar made up for it.

This is an okay puppy chow. I would suggest no butter as the butter changes the flavor from sweet and delightful to feel heavier. While it isn’t bad, the butter overpowers the flavors of the chocolate.

It’s as easy as it sounds. I use my That’s a bowl from Tupperware to mix it in. Works like a charm.

This tasted great and just like I remembered as a kid. Next time I will add a little more powdered sugar and shake the powdered sugar and cereal in a large bowl with a lid. I made a mess shaking it in a paper sack.

Puppy Chow is a Midwestern delicacy! There aren’t many recipes online, and this one really hits home! The best part is that you can add as much chocolate/powdered sugar as you desire. This recipe is great because there isn’t an exact amount to everything, you can adjust to how your tastes are.

I’ve made this several times now. Putting it in a large paper sack makes all of the difference! You can ask for them at the grocery store instead of plastic, and most will gladly give you a new one if you ask, at least here in the mid-west!

Very good. Followed ingredients list exactly except the powdered sugar. I scooped out 2 cups, stirred, then added more until I liked the look of it- maybe 2.5-3 cups total.

I never made or ate this before but I needed a fast sweet snack for a birthday party open house. I made about a recipe and a half. ! used half semi sweet chips and half milk chocolate chips because that was on hand and I hoped it would help reduce the sweetness. It tasted like I thought it would, still too sweet for me I think it will be liked at the open house.

amazing taste would definitely make it again.

this (addicting stuff) never goes out of style. Loved the fact that this made a big batch. I ran out of creamy so had to add a bit of crunchy pb to make the 1 cup. I also ran out of milk choc chips; had exactly 1 cup of them so I used 1 cup peanut butter chips. This was so good. Great for any time, and a great last minute snack or treat for a party. synch to prepare. Many possibilities with the variety of chips there are to switch it up a bit. I had a large plastic bag from bed, bath,& beyond that I used to shake it all up in. worked perfect and didn’t waste a perfectly good trash bag.

Great, took the recommendations of less b.sugar, used 1 box rice(12oz), and corn Chex, and threw in some M & M’s. My genius husband came up with the idea of shaking it the oven bags we bought for Thanksgiving! Worked out perfectly!

I only had crunchy peanut butter on hand, so that’s what I used. Other than that, I followed instructions exactly and this was YUMMY! This disappeared quickly as my family just loved it! Thanks for the great recipe, Bonnie.

any tips on how to get it evenly coated. I have a lot that are stuck together and lacking powdered sugar

Granddaughter loves this snack

We all love it! I took another cook’s advice and used a trash bag to toss the cereal in. This helped keep it from breaking and it coated more evenly.

I thought it was quite easy to make. I put chunky peanut butter into a large Dutch oven with the butter and “mint” choco chips. Stirred it all together added the rice checks and folded them into the mixture. The mint was very subtle and the chunky peanut butter add a little extra something. Everyone loved it. 5 stars
