Mexican Taco Ring

  4.3 – 35 reviews  • Beef

For rare occasions like Christmas Eve in Italy, when we serve one fish meal after another, make this seafood caprese salad. Buffalo mozzarella, caramelized tomatoes, poached shrimp, and toasty breadcrumbs give it extra crunch.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 35 mins
Total Time: 45 mins
Servings: 8

Ingredients

  1. 1 pound ground beef
  2. 1 small onion, chopped
  3. ¾ cup water
  4. 1 (1.25 ounce) package taco seasoning
  5. 2 (8 ounce) cans refrigerated crescent rolls
  6. 1 (8 ounce) package shredded Mexican cheese blend

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir beef and onion in the hot skillet until beef is browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease. Add water and taco seasoning to beef mixture; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until water is evaporated, 10 to 15 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  3. Remove crescent roll dough from the packaging and separate into individual triangles.
  4. Arrange crescent roll triangles in a circle with the points facing outward on a pizza stone or pan. Spoon ground beef mixture into the center of each dough piece, creating a ring shape. Sprinkle cheese over ground beef mixture. Fold crescent roll points toward the middle, sealing dough together.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until dough is lightly browned, 11 to 13 minutes.

Added some extra spices to the meat mixture; otherwise made as directed. Family inhaled it with lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, salsa, and sour cream for garnish. Delish! I do recommend using parchment paper under the ring, and I covered the top once it was sufficiently brown so that the bottom could finish baking. That cured the issue some reported of the bottom being underdone and soggy. Total baking time was about 20 minutes.

it turned out pretty good. i’ll make it again.

Perfect, I like how the cheese is stirred into the beef mixture, rather than sprinkled on top, believe it or not, it’s less messy. I also typically cook the beef mixture with an onion, but no one notices when I don’t. Made two so that there are lunches (or dinner) for tomorrow.

This actually turned out to be a lot better than I thought it would be. I was uncertain how it would taste with crescents in the place of tortillas. It was really good, filling, and fun to make with a cute presentation.

everyone loved it!! will make again. although I had to bake for about 20 minutes but it was worth the extra wait.

I liked it, but next time, I’m going to add more than just taco seasoning and onions to the beef mix. Definitely jalapeños. Not sure what else, maybe green chiles, but it needs a bit more Mexican flavor, IMO

Cook time is closer to 25 minutes.

My husband and I cook for our daughter and her children on weeknights. We get in a rut and decided to try this recipe. My husband doesn’t eat tacos, but was willing to try this, since the rest of the family loves them. It turned out perfect and we had no leftovers. I’m pretty sure my husband had more than his fair share! My only complaint was that my pizza stone was not quite big enough, so we had some hang over and forgot to put foil under it to catch the drippings. We set off the smoke alarm and had a dirty oven to clean. Excellent meal though.

Very quick & easy recipe. Everybody enjoyed it.

I mix an equal amount of riced cauliflower in with the meat. The kids don’t notice and it makes me feel like it’s not as unhealthy. 😉

I tried this recipe and it was my first time attempting a taco ring and I loved it!! Some people say it didn’t have much flavor but with the toppings I used (sour cream, mild salsa, and lettuce) it was full of flavor! I portioned everything exactly and followed all directions and it turned out so yummy! I recommend to anyone especially to anyone trying it for the first time!

This was a great recipe! I used a pizza stone and had no difficulty with sogginess. We will be making this again, soon.

I followed the recipe pretty much, except added black olives & green onion to the dough before folding. It was delish and everyone raved over it…they gobbled it up in no time! Will make again for sure!

Made this many times. Love that I can change it up depending on what I have on hand. Tonight used Southwest seasoning and 1 cup salsa in the ground beef and it was yummy!

Total hit!! My family and brother in law loved it! Even my son who has Ausbergers liked it! I did not bake the cheese in it. Instead I doubled the meat. Baked up awesome! I piled shredded iceberg lettuce in the center and then had condiments on the side: cheese, sour cream, fresh chopped tomatoes, sliced black olives and organic salsa. I am 100% positively making this again!

My family loved it! We used ground turkey to make it a little more healthy and it was delicious!

It was fairly easy to make and tasted ok. I will make it again but will add something more to the inside as it was on the dry side. Definitely serve it with sour cream or something.
