Mexican Ground Turkey Dip

4.0 – 2 reviews  • Cheese Dips and Spreads Recipes

The most frequently requested recipe ever is this ground turkey dip. Since I enjoyed it at a gathering, I only bring it when asked to bring anything. Serve with pita bread sliced into eighths or scoop-style tortilla chips (like Tostitos®).

Yield: 18 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 pound ground turkey
  2. 2 red bell peppers, chopped
  3. 1 large Spanish onion, chopped
  4. 1 jalapeno pepper, diced, or more to taste
  5. 2 cups salsa
  6. 1 cup sour cream
  7. 1 (1 ounce) packet taco seasoning
  8. 1 (1 pound) package processed cheese (such as Velveeta®), cubed
  9. 1 cup grated Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir turkey in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Add red bell peppers, onion, and jalapeno pepper; saute until onion is just translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Mix salsa, sour cream, and taco seasoning together in a large, oven-safe casserole dish. Add the turkey mixture and processed cheese. Mix well. Top with Cheddar cheese.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until top is bubbling, about 30 minutes.
  5. You can use ground chicken or beef as well; I just prefer the flavor the turkey gives, not to mention, it’s lower in fat. Will serve more or less, depending on whether your guests go crazy over it!

So yummy!! And a great dip for parties. You could have different sides of toppings for people to add on their plates, but this recipe on its on was perfect with some cilantro on top.

This recipe is a great base and would be a 4-5 star with a few additions like slice olives, cilantro, fresh red onions vs. sauteed Spanish onions and green onion garnish. I did garnish mine with cilantro.
