Kielbasa Appetizers

  4.3 – 94 reviews  • Pork

Since I’ve been cooking these for around ten years, people have frequently asked for the recipe. If you don’t grab one, you might miss your chance because they are simple to build and disappear so quickly. Refrigerate or serve right away. If chilled beforehand, bars cut more readily.

Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  1. 18 fluid ounces beer
  2. 1 (18 ounce) bottle barbecue sauce
  3. ½ cup brown sugar
  4. ¼ cup Dijon mustard
  5. 2 pounds kielbasa (Polish) sausage, cut into 1/2 inch pieces

Instructions

  1. Combine the beer, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard in a large skillet over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally; reduce heat to low and add the kielbasa. Simmer until kielbasa is browned and glazed, about 1 hour.

First of all it was easy until the dijon mustard did not melt into the sauce. The recipe did not specify powdered or in a bottle. I used the one in a bottle (brand new). As luck would have it I was able to sieve out all the chunks of mustard that were everywhere. Now I am freaking as to whether the Kielbasa will totally cook and if anyone will notice the little bug looking pc’s of mustard. Recipe needs better instructions.

Everyone loved it. I used Sweet Baby Rays’s original sauce and a bottle of Guiness. I used about half of the sugar. Browned the sausage and cooked it in the crockpot on low for about 5 hours.

I have made this many times over the years. Always a hit. Have had many people ask for the recipe.

I have mixed feelings about this recipe. Made it for a friend’s gathering and I live inEurope where sizes are a bit off from the amounts quoted in the recipe. So, I think I ended up with too much beer in it and it took forever to caramelize. However, once it finally did, it was lovely and the group ate them right up. I will try again and use different amounts.

too much thin liquid-will try again with less beer. something different and very easy.

The appetizer was a success. I used 12 oz. of beer, BBQ sauce, and mustard in the sauce. I omitted the sugar and thickened the sauce with a corn starch slurry.

These were good on their own but I was looking for more of a side dish to serve with Mac and cheese. Added a can of pork and beans after about 30 minutes and simmers another 30. Fabulous.

Followed recipe as written, very good, got lots of positive comments on it. I will make again.

I made this and made the following changes. Added suggested crushed red pepper, garlic and Worcestershire. Also added onion powder, bacon bits, Tbl. raspberry syrup, Tbl. red wine vinegar. Seasoned it up nicely. Final taste is like a bit stronger Carolina sauce.

It was a big hit at neighborhood movie night, I doubled the recipe and it filled the crockpot perfectly.

A definite winner. I took them to a baseball game with toothpicks already stuck in each one. They were a big hit. And so easy to make.

Made this for guests and everyone loved it. I added a dish of hot sauce for a little heat. Will be making it again.

I modified this with 12 oz gluten free beer. then also cut the BBQ sauce to 6 oz and matched it with 6oz of bourbon. My guests could not get enough! Soaked over night and heated in the oven then a heated serving platter.

Will make this again. Used only half of brown sugar added bell peppers and onions and served over egg noodles!

Made this for my work department for Christmas holiday. Was easy to make the night before, then put it in crock pot and let it warm up for three hours. Turned out great, sauce thickened up nicely and it tasted great. Will make it again.
David Prince
I used all beef sausage rather than polish. Maybe that was my mistake.

Needed a ‘beer tasting’ app and this looked good. As some mentioned, parboiled the sausage to remove some fat. Added red pepper flakes, garlic powder and worchesthire with one of the red ales. Put in the slow cooker for about 6 hrs. It was still kinda watery so I added a bit more bbq sauce. Needs a little less brown sugar. Everyone loved this dish. With 8lbs, didn’t even fill my slow cooker all the way. Will use a bit less beer next time for a thicker sauce.

I made this in a covered pot in the oven. No other changes. Very yummy and easy. Next time will add a can of pineapple for an extra layer of flavor.

Had a family get together and wanted something new and good. It turned out great. I will add to my list for summer pool parties. They were a great appetizer and then side for the meal.

It would have been better if I just put the kielbasa in BBQ sauce instead of this recipe.

I haven’t tried these yet but they sound really tasty! I think I will brown my sausage first tho.
