  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Stir in popcorn kernels and sugar.

I loved it a lot. It’s a great Friday night snack.

Followed the 3-second on/off heat shaking when off to keep from burning. Used enuf oil to cover bottom of SS 2 qt pan… about 3 T. Stir in sugar before adding rest of kernels once the first 3 pop.

Love this, so easy to make

Quick and good, can modify to reduce calories by lowering oil and sugar a bit but more apt to burn.

I adjusted my recipe for a single eater, so about 1-2tbsp of oil, 3tbsp of kernels, and 1 tbsp of sugar in the pot. I then dusted with a salt and sugar mix as it cooled. I have an electric coil stove, so to avoid the screeching, I let the pot sit for 10-15 seconds, then lifted and shook. If you have never made stovetop popcorn before, I would recommend practicing without sugar first to get the technique down, then make this recipe.

Sooo good! I used coconut oil and a splenda brown sugar blend and it worked perfectly. I act fast with stovetop popcorn and remove it as soon as its done popping for good results.

Warning: the sound of the corn popping is much quieter than you may be used to (if you usually pop corn in just a tablespoon or two of oil). The popping is easily masked by the noise made by shaking the pot on the stove (especially if you have a crummy electric coil stove like I do, where the coils are slightly crooked and rattle a lot in their holders). I preheated the pot with oil and three kernels. When they popped, I put in the rest of the popcorn and sugar, and did 3 seconds on/3 seconds off the burner, shaking the pot. After 10 minutes by the clock, I still couldn’t hear my corn popping at all. So I turned up the burner a little bit (half a notch past medium). Then I started to hear a few very quiet pops, but my sugar syrup scorched. I wound up with half unpopped kernels in a dark brown, bitter coating. I wish I had a glass lid for my pot so I could keep an eye on the popping!

I followed recipe, but the popcorn did not pop. Sugar got lumpy. Had to throw it all away.

Very easy! I will no longer buy kettle corn!

YUMMY! I used coconut oil instead of vegetable oil. Heated up oil. Added in popcorn. And then spread sugar evenly. Shook every 2 to 3 seconds.

Unfortunately, after following directions to a T, it burned.

This is simply the BEST kettle corn recipe. So simple, easy, fast, and super delicious. I took KRYSTENL’s advice, by adding three kernels to the oil at the beginning and when they pop it’s time to add all the popcorn and sugar, then 3 secs on the burner, 3 secs off it shaking the pot, over and over again until the popping slows down. No burning at all! I also added a tablespoon each of butter and coconut oil to the oil (I used sunflower oil) at the very beginning for a little extra flavor! So good! Oh and also I salted the popcorn when it was done popping and I had poured it into a large bowl. A must-try recipe and one that I will make again and again.

seeing as it’s almost Valentines day, I’ll add to the recipe. I grind up about 6 cinnamon hard candies in spice grinder, wait until oil & corn are sizzling add the powdered candy and shake till done popping, your popcorn will have a light pink color and cinnamon flavor. HAPPY Valentines Day !

So, I, uh, used the wrong measuring cup and accidentally made a double batch. It was so SO good, hubby and I went ahead and ate the entire double batch. I recommending reading the best helpful review about the 3 seconds resting / shaking technique. Perfect! Delicious!

Great recipe. Super easy! I did heat the oil and test with 3 kernels before adding sugar and rest of kernels but didn’t change the recipe at all. I did dump it out the second it was done so that the sugar wouldn’t burn – it was already starting to caramelize a bit on the bottom but didn’t burn. I would say to heed the step about letting it cool. That sugar comes out hot AF and I nearly burned my fingers because I was anxious to dig in and only gave it a few minutes!

Absolutely delicious. Followed the directions for my whirly pop stovetop popper. Added oil, plus a few kernels and heated. When they started to pop, added the rest of the corn and the sugar. Shook and stirred immediately and continuously until popping ceased. I did add a little fine popcorn salt as suggested. Half a recipe makes a huge snack portion for me alone. Never have to pay for a fair or food truck version again!!

I wish I read the reviews first. The kernels took a while to heat back up and in the meantime the sugar burnt. Will be trying again starting with just 3 kernels.
