This vegetarian green chili is available across Colorado. works well over everything, including cheeseburgers, fried eggs, and breakfast burritos.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 25 mins
Servings: 12
Yield: 2 dozen newt eyes

Ingredients

  1. 12 eggs
  2. 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  3. 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  4. 1 pinch celery salt
  5. 1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
  6. 2 drops green food coloring, or as needed
  7. 1 (6 ounce) can sliced black olives, drained

Instructions

  1. Place all of the eggs into a large pot so they can rest on the bottom in a single layer. Fill with just enough cold water to cover the eggs. Bring to a boil, then cover, remove from the heat and let stand for about 15 minutes. Rinse under cold water or add some ice to the water and let the eggs cool completely. Peel and slice in half lengthwise.
  2. Remove the yolks from the eggs and place them in a bowl. Mix in the relish, mayonnaise, celery salt, mustard, and food coloring. Spoon this filling into the egg whites and place them on a serving tray. Round the top of the filling using the spoon. Place an olive slice on each yolk to create the center of the eye. Dab a tiny bit of mayonnaise in the center of the olive as a finishing touch.

My nieces and nephew loved this! Thank you!

This is food people, don’t use food coloring for the “Bloodshot Eyes” add flavor and use your favorite, red, hot sauce. Brush it on or dip the flat surface halves in the sauce. If that is too spicy or strong, water it down slightly to get the effect desired.

It was really thick, but it still tasted good

Made these for a Halloween party. They were a huge hit. I made two dozen and they were gone quicker than the catered food. Love the little bit of different flavor the celery salt added.

yum and super cute!!

These were a hit at a Halloween party – you can use any deviled egg recipe for this, just add food coloring!

This was a hit with the kids at my party! It’s a good recipe for deviled eggs and looked just gross enough to please all the ghouls there! The only thing I didn’t use was the pickle relish.

These are so cute! The definitely need more mayo though. I added 3 Tbs. I also used paprika mixed with water (to create a sort of paprika paste) for the veins. Thanks!

We had so much fun making these. We made no substitutions, and they turned out just right for a Halloween party appetizer.

Eggs were good (who doesn’t love a devilled egg?) but it think could have used a little more mayo. Or maybe just some spice to flavour them up a bit. Taste wise there were a little dull. Still looked neat but how did people get the paprika to look like bloodshot eyes? Mine just looked like random straight lines.

Make this every year!!

Huge hit! Add a touch of schriracha sauce to the filling and it makes it even better!

These were a huge hit at our Halloween party. I used double the mayo and double the mustard otherwise it wasn’t moist enough. I wasn’t sure how the red lines were made in the picture so I used sprinkled paprika.

Excellent!!! I made my own filling with the yolks. I added blue to it to make green. I set some aside without food coloring for the middle eye dot. I used a toothpick and red coloring for the veins. Easy peasy. I layed them on a bed of shredded cabbage I blanched, dried off with paper towels then added green, blue coloring mixture to it to turn it mossy looking. Everyone at my daughters Halloween party loved them. Thanks soo much. These were a huge hit. I always come to Allrecipes for ideas and recipes.

Made these for a Halloween party last Saturday and they were a smash hit. I didnt have any celery salt, but it must not have mattered much because these things were gobbled down so fast that I didnt even get to try one 🙁 They’re also alot of fun to make, and really do look cool. Make sure you do the red food coloring toothpick technique to make the eyes look even more realistic!

I made these for a Halloween party and they were a hit. I used green olives instead of black because they were already stuffed. For the red veins I used a tooth pick dipped in red food coloring. They looked fabulous and tasted great.

These came out great but the bloodshot eyes were tough to do. I might try toe paprika note I saw in the reviews next time.

This is now my go to recipe for halloween. The first time I made it I followed the recipe very closely and everyone loved it. The lay few times I’ve added a purple less mayo and less relish, the flavor it still strong just not as fatty or acidic. The black olives for the eyes make the prefect spooky touch for a Halloween party. Highly recommend this recipe, you’re guests will love it.

It was good, not outstanding.
