After numerous failed tries at making gluten-free meatballs, my mum created this recipe. Now we may enjoy a cuisine we love in a delicious and healthy way!
Prep Time: | 15 mins |
Cook Time: | 30 mins |
Total Time: | 45 mins |
Servings: | 40 |
Yield: | 40 meatballs |
Ingredients
- ¾ pound ground turkey
- ½ pound chicken sausage, casings removed
- ⅔ cup gluten-free bread crumbs
- 3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine ground turkey, chicken sausage, bread crumbs, basil, milk, garlic, Parmesan cheese, kosher salt, and black pepper in a bowl; mix gently with a fork. Drop mixture, about 1 1/4-inch diameter per meatball, onto the prepared baking sheet using a spoon.
- Bake in the preheated oven until cooked through and lightly browned, about 30 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
- Substitute 2 teaspoons garlic powder for the minced garlic, if desired.
- You can use 1 and 1/4 pounds of whatever ground meat you prefer rather than the ground turkey mixed with sausage. You could also try different spices.

These are seriously delicious. No notes!
Very delicious, came out perfect. I did substitute gluten free cracker crumbs for the bread crumbs, and used Adobo instead of salt and pepper. I didn’t use any sausage, only because I didn’t have any, so I used 1-1/3 lbs. of ground turkey. I will make these again!!!
This was a great recipe! Made some minor changes because I didn’t have sausage, so left it out and replaced the cheese with feta cheese. Have these for appetizers!
This was delicious! I made the following changes for my family’s tastes: mix bison meat with the turkey instead of chicken, add 1 egg’s worth of egg whites, three tablespoons of garlic powder (rather than minced), onion powder, oregano, basil and parsley, a few sprinkles of liquid mesquite smoke and the same of Worcestershire sauce. Spraying the baking pan with olive oil cooking spray kept them from sticking. This was a gluten free, low fat alternative that was absolutely yummy and a keeper!
So so good! Definitely a keeper.
this is a great recipe. I’ve made it several times for different sauces. it’s great the way it is. I’ve made adjustments to ingredients just to use what I had on hand a couple of times. its versatile and is my go-to recipe for meatballs. Thanks for sharing!
Ii made these using turkey and capreses chicken sausage from Costco. They were easy to make and delicious. Best part? All 3 kids aged 9, 12 & 15 loved them. It’s so rare to make something that they all love! I served with my homemade spaghetti sauce and penne pasta. Thanks for sharing the recipe!!
Very good for turkey meatballs! I can’t get fresh chicken sausage in my area and subbed with Italian Sausage (used 1 lb ground turkey + 1/2 lb italian sausage), omitted the egg and milk due to dietary restrictions, but the meatballs held up fine and were not dry or falling apart. The smell of the meat mixture seemed slightly off to me and I added a tad more basil and parsley (dried as that’s what I had on hand; flavor of chicken sausage varies and my italian sausage was weak in seasonings). Really enjoyed these in comparison to straight turkey meatballs. The sausage seems to add the lack of fat along with additional flavor whereas straight ground turkey meatballs tends to be on the dry side and requires more seasoning. I added these meatballs to Basic Marinara for the Instant Pot by Bren and it was an excellent spaghetti and meatballs dinner! Will use these going forward for turkey meatballs! Thanks for the recipe, Olivia!
I made this recipe and it was amazing. The only changes I made was I left out the chicken sausage, and for bread crumbs I used Cheerios, because they are a fantastic gluten free substitute for bread crumbs!! Just pop them in the blender and done.
For the family that isn’t gluten-free, this recipe works well with panko bread crumbs.
I made no changes. I would recommend to cut the chicken sausage to 1/4 lb. The sausage overwhelm the the turkey. I will eat them with my eggs for breakfast.
This was wonderfully tasty!!!! Thank you for the recipe! I will be making this again for sure!
These were so tasty! Will definitely make again.
very easy to make added tomato & been pasta sauce, sweetpototo and courgettes husband loved will be making again.
Very flavorful! The foil needs extra cooking spray because meatballs don’t have much grease & mine stuck. I also recommend turning meatballs so they can brown on 2 sides.
Very good! my husband was recently put on a gluten-free, dairy-free diet, so I made this without the cheese and they were delicious. I baked the meatballs then slipped them into homemade sauce that i had simmering on the stove. Delicioso!
easy to make, however I felt it was missing something, not as great as I thought
Looks delicious . Even I tried it out and it was a hit at home…
These are sooooo good. The sausage really gives it that kick to make them Super Meatballs. The mixture stays moist and yet still holds together. Thank you for the recipe.
