I can whip up this salmon patty recipe at the end of a long, arduous day since it is so quick and simple. It takes minimal effort but it has a powerful flavor. These salmon patties are a favorite of my kids’ and are frequently requested by them; occasionally, I’ll even prepare a few extra for the next day’s lunches!
Prep Time: | 20 mins |

Ingredients
- 2 (5 ounce) cans salmon, drained and flaked
- ½ cup panko bread crumbs
- ¼ cup green bell pepper, diced
- ¼ cup green onions, diced
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons finely minced fresh ginger
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil, or as needed
Instructions
- Mix salmon, panko, bell pepper, green onions, eggs, ginger, soy sauce, sesame seeds, and five-spice powder together in a bowl. Form mixture into patties.
- Heat sesame oil in a skillet over medium heat until it bubbles around the tip of a spoon when dipped in. Working in batches, cook patties in the hot skillet until browned, 4 to 5 minutes. Flip and brown on the other side, 4 to 5 more minutes. Remove to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- Feel free to replace the green bell pepper and green onion with whatever pepper or onion you have on hand. But, whatever you do, don’t skip the ginger and five-spice powder. They really make a difference.

Reviews
These were good but not so very different than the ones I usually make.
I tried your recipe for dinner tonight, they were pretty taste, I made them in the air fryer. 8 minutes, I will make again. Thanks
These Pattie’s have such spectacular flavor, and the chef who thought up this recipe is ingenious! Bravo!!!!
So easy to make and such a success! Thank you!
these were good. hubs did not read thru the recipe first so mistakenly added the sesame oil to the mix but they were still awesome.
This was simple and really tasty minus the Chinese five-spice powder. Like all menus, I tweaked it and will make it again in the near future.
Loved this recipe
Great Taste!
6.24.18 Good, but a bit of a disappointment because I was looking for more Asian flavor. They pretty much tasted like the salmon patties that I just throw together and have been making for years, so not a total disappointment. If I were to make again, I’d probably increase those Asian ingredients, the five-spice powder, soy sauce, and ginger root. There was an empty plate at the end of the meal! Thanks for sharing your recipe.
