Perfect as is. After reviewing the exact recipe, i modified it for what was on hand. I used bottled lemon juice to sub for lime juice. Lots of fresh garlic, cayenne and cumin powder. It kind of needs the cumin powder as others have suggested.
Great stuff! I left out the garlic because my husband is allergic (anybody else have to deal with that?) and it still has plenty of flavor. Good on toast for breakfast.
Really liked the taste. Used it to make Humus pizza.
this is really good! I didn’t have tahini, so I used roasted sesame seeds. I would recommend grinding them separately before adding them, as they didn’t get very smooth for me. I added cumin and red pepper flakes, and I think it would have been kinda bland without that addition
Excellent and extremely easy to make! I did have fresh garlic on hand, so used that (two cloves) instead of the powder.
Good flavor and texture . I added two garlic cloves.
This was the first time I made hummus, (heck, first time I ever ate hummus) and I LOVE this! So easy to make and so tasty!
Great base recipe that is simple and leaves room for you to add your own touch. I doubled recipe, added 1/2 tsp cumin and 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper and used lemon instead of lime. I also did not have tahini so I substituted with Sesame Oil.
I did not change a thing. Easy recipe. Everyone loved it! I will be making this again and again.
5 stars for a delicious recipe as-is. This is a great recipe to make your own! The measurements for the spice are pretty spot on for the first time making it, then…. you can reimagine it to your taste! I did flavor it up a bit. The red pepper I chopped well first in the food processor which left beautiful specks of pepper throughout. Then added the garbanzos, substituted 1-2 Tbs fresh lemon juice instead of lime, added 1/2 tsp cumin, 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper, no water, then the other ingredients as noted. I prefer my hummus with substance – not runny or too soft and feel the red pepper provides enough moisture. I topped it off with a drizzle of EVVO and a toasted pine nut mixture. It was delicious and beautiful. I added a picture to this page – check it out!
I added cumin seeds and it made hummus even better
Meant to buy hummus but forgot. I had all these ingredients. Super easy to make. Everyone enjoyed it- none left over after our party!
A little bland and watery. Will try again with no water and a little cumin. Easy to make though!
Deliouses, I also made with fresh garlic!
Taste kind of blan to me ….what did I do wrong ??
Delicious! and Simple. After I tased it, I too added a little cumin. Also, I added Greek Kalamata Olives as well to another batch.
This hummus is a base for a mind blowingly delicious hummus. I broiled red pepper, carrot and garlic cloves for 5 mins. I ended up taking the skin off of the red pepper. I added smoked sea salt, freshly grated black pepper, paprika, more basil, and some of the juice from the garbanzo beans’ boiling juice since it was really thick. I used 5-6 of key limes instead of lemon juice. This is the best!
As everyone else says, add cumin. Also, drain the water from the can of beans and use that, instead of tap water – more flavor. Used fresh garlic. I eat hummus as a healthy snack, so I use this recipe (without the peppers) as a base for other kinds of hummus. Fresh basil is nice, stir in chopped green olives, roasted garlic – whatever strikes your fancy. Threw in leftover green beans recently. I generally make a double batch, because my food processor is too big for this recipe.
I would make it again!
The recipe lacked seasoning and was rather bland, but it was a good starting point. Like a blank canvas, you can add your own twist to give it some dimension. I added some smoked paprika and cumin. You might also want to bump up the salt & pepper, too.
I added some cumin and a whole jar of roasted red pepper.
