Easy Black Bean Hummus

  4.0 – 26 reviews  • Hummus Recipes

This hummus is tasty and simple to make. It’s nice to use this hummus in place of the meat in sandwiches since it gives the sandwich a wonderful flavor. You can adjust the amount of lemon juice to suit your tastes. If you want, you can also add more spices. Eat some chips and enjoy!

I changed a lot. Used all of the ingredients as listed except upped the garlic powder to 2 t. Added 1/8 t smoked paprika and a dash of cayenne. Popped in a little salt to taste. Only used half of the lemon and added 1/4 t sesame oil. I think next time I might add jalapeño, and top with some cilantro or olives or fresh tomato. I can see it with some roasted corn or any of the traditional items that go along side black beans. If you like bland bean dip then the original recipe is great. But using it as a base and adding some more seasoning and spice made me happy. Of course traditional humus is generally not a black bean but made a great change of pace.

It wasn’t super flavorful but then I added in more spices and herbs, plus I added grated zucchini. Overall I would make it again.

I really loved this; it was super easy to make but very flavorful and full bodied. I actually liked it more than regular hummus, and was so happy to find something snackish that I could actually eat on my diet.

I liked this. It’s easy, absolutely. It’s the lazy person’s answer to a healthy snack. It’s perfect with tortilla chips and spicy pickled veggies.

I couldn’t achieve the smoother texture that some other reviewers were able to. I also didn’t enjoy the overpowering taste of garlic. Wouldn’t make again as is.

Used dried oregano I had on hand and it was great! No need to add a bunch of spices. Great like it is being simple.

I added oil to taste and to make it creamier, used granulated garlic, chilli powder and cumin

when we made this the bean dip was pretty dry. we just added a couple spoons full of 0% yogurt and made it creamier

It was okay. A little too bland for me. I felt like I wasted a can of black beans, during this coronavirus quarantine.

Editing…a few days later and I threw it out. Just not good. Original ……I tried to make it in a blender. That was a mistake so I moved it to a food processor. That worked better but way too thick. I added about another 2 tsp of lemon juice. I agree with another that I did not care for the basil flavor. I will try another recipe or do like others and completely modify this one. I do think this would be good in a wrap or sandwich. BTW folks, don’t give 5 stars to a recipe that you modify with many different ingredients. I can’t read all the reviews to figure out how to get the high rating.

Easy to make and extremely tasty!

This is really good. I use it as the base layer for 7 layer dip instead of retried beans. Great with nacho chips

I make this all the time and love it! It’s so inexpensive and easy! My neighbour constantly brings over beans asking for a quick batch. I kick everything up with a little cayenne otherwise as is is delicious!

This made a nice thick dip, but I didn’t like the basil in it. Next time I’ll try a different spice combination.

Four stars because we needed some adjustments. I used 2 tsp garlic powder and added 1/4 tsp cayenne and 1/8 tsp paprika. I also added extra lemon juice and oil to get it to blend more smoothly. My son loved it.

The first time I made this I followed the directions to the letter. I tasted it and found it very bland and dry. I decided to take it in a southwestern direction. I added the juice of a lime, more basil, granulated garlic (much more flavorful than garlic powder), a dash of fresh cilantro and cumin. All were added to taste. Once my guests overcame the odd color, they were hooked. It’s become a requested dish at parties and potluck dinners. I’ve used pita bread, pita chips, tortilla chips and crostini to dip. The best pita chips were the best.

I saw this recipe and immediately made it. Its fabulous!! took me less than 5 min to whip up and it tastes amazing!! instead of lemon juice, I used lime juice since that’s all I had on hand. With pretzels, this is a wonderful homework SNACK :3

Easy recipe! I would however not use as much basil in it next time.

It wasn’t really like hummus, but it was very good. I ate it on bread.
