Deviled Eggs with Zip

  4.0 – 20 reviews  • Spicy Deviled Egg Recipes

I have brought these delicious deviled eggs to a lot of gatherings, and everyone always likes them. They are only somewhat spicy. To suit personal preference, alter the mustard and mayonnaise ratios. If I really want to heat things up, I will occasionally add a hot Jamaican pepper.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 30 mins
Total Time: 45 mins
Servings: 12
Yield: 12 deviled eggs

Ingredients

  1. 12 eggs
  2. 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  3. 1 teaspoon Chinese hot prepared mustard
  4. 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
  5. salt and pepper to taste
  6. paprika, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place eggs in a large saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Cover and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, cool and peel.
  2. Slice eggs in half lengthwise and remove yolks. Place yolks in a medium bowl, and mash together with mayonnaise, Chinese hot prepared mustard, yellow mustard, salt and pepper.
  3. Fill the hollowed egg whites with the egg yolk mixture. Garnish with paprika. Chill in the refrigerator until serving.

I liked the spicinesss from the hot Chinese mustard but found the mixture needed more mayo. Very good after adding the extra mayo. Thanks for sharing your recipe!

Awesome! Added more mayo for consistency. Whipped with a hand mixer. Smoked paprika on top. Gone in seconds. So easy! Already have requests for the next party!

I could use Chinese hot mustard. I substituted the Chinese hot mustard for Dijon. It was delicious!

Normally, I love deviled eggs….and I´ve tried MANY recipes and flavors before. But something was OFF in this recipe. I didn´t like the flavor combination at all. I finally just chopped up the deviled eggs, added a ton of lettuce, and made a type of egg salad pita sandwich (I certainly didn´t want to waste 6 good eggs). The lettuce and pita ¨covered¨the flavor somewhat and made them edible. Sorry…this did not work for me

Was nice and zippy, but for a real nice touch place a sliced jalapeno on top of of your deviled egg. Delicious! Great with a cold beer!

These are OK but I had to make changes for them to be good. I used probably 3x the mayo, replaced yellow mustard with dijon, put in about 2 T. pickle relish, and used dry mustard. I topped eggs with smoked paprika.

My husband and I have been making this recipe for years. We don’t ever measure the mayonnaise or hot mustard; we just ad lib until we get the flavor we want. We also never use regular yellow mustard, we add a little sugar, and we garnish with cilantro.

Pretty good deviled eggs. I didn’t think it was really that spicy until I added another teaspoon of hot mustard, then I got some zing. Maybe that’s just me, though, since I love lots of yellow mustard and too much can be spicy as well. I didn’t buy the hot mustard but just grabbed one of those little packet they give you when you order Chinese, which worked just fine. I also added a dill pickle spear, put everything in the food processor and let it combine. Very nice. Thanks for the recipe!

I love these but then again I put hot sauce on hard boiled eggs, very good twist to a rather bland favorite. Thanks Bonnie.

These were a nice change of pace, but they turned out a bit too runny for my liking. My adventurous guests enjoyed the tiny bit of zing–might make again, but I still love my “old standby” recipe best.

These were good but needed additional mayo and spices to make the filling creamier and to kick up the spice.

I like things spicy, and was disappointed with these “devilish eggs.” I made them again while ramping up the flavor … I put everything into the yolk mix including Chinese mustard, boutique spicy mustard, jalapeno pepper juice, hot sauce, hot peppers, and a few powdered spices. This is a great recipe for experimenting with as I don’t think anything can be done to make them too “zippy”.

I used more mayo than suggested and replaced the yellow mustard with dijon. The hot mustard gave these a great kick that we all loved. Thank you Bonnie!

These were pretty good eggs! Everyone at my party seemed to enjoy them. I had to add more mayo to give them the creamy consistency that I like. I do wish I had added pickle relish, but this wass a nice change from my ordinary recipe for deviled eggs.

Very good recipe just made a couple of changes. I doubled the hot mustard (my family loves hot and spicy foods) and added some dill. I am now in charge of making Deviled Eggs for EVERY function. Thanks for the wonderful recipe.

This recipe certainly DOES have zip. I love that great taste and extra “kick” in these deviled eggs. Not recommended for those who wouldn’t like the yellow mustard aftertaste in their mouth. Those who don’t love the taste of yellow mustard might find these eggs a bit overwhelming.

A winner! Everyone at my party loved them. They disappeared quickly.

love the hot mustard!

Yuck! I hate to give a bad review but these were just awful and it was a shame to waste the eggs on this recipe. I threw out the entire thing as no one could even manage to get past the first bite.
