Daddy’s Popcorn

Get a popcorn maker and make some at home. If you try this stovetop recipe for popcorn, you’ll never go back to microwave popcorn again. Oil, margarine, and seasoned salt are used to make it.

Prep Time: 2 mins
Cook Time: 5 mins
Total Time: 7 mins
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  1. ¼ cup vegetable oil
  2. 3 tablespoons margarine
  3. ½ cup unpopped popcorn
  4. ½ teaspoon seasoned salt, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Start by cutting a paper grocery sack in half. This will serve as a makeshift serving bowl and it will absorb excess oil.
  2. In a 2-quart pot, combine oil, margarine and popcorn. Set over high heat, and constantly shake pan back and forth. After first kernel of corn pops, place the lid on the pot, and continue shaking. When popcorn starts to lift the lid up off the pan, remove it from the heat, and hold it over the paper bag until it stops popping.
  3. Pour into the paper sack and season with half of seasoned salt. Shake the paper sack to distribute salt. Taste before adding more so you don’t make it too salty. You can always add more salt.

I think you have to acquire the taste for this. Growing up, my grandfather would take me to the American Legion where I’d get some freshly popped popcorn and they always put Lowery’s on it. It was SO good. I still enjoy popcorn this way but these days I prefer it without the better. Just popcorn popped in coconut oil then sprinkled with Lowery’s. So very good!

I’m in love with this recipe – popcorn comes out fluffy, not greasy, with just enough butter flavor. I used peanut oil instead of vegetable oil because it was all I had in the house, and it still came out great! Perfect quick snack!

This has way too much oil/margarine. If you cut that in half, and swap out the margarine for butter, you’ll get yourself really delicious popcorn.

Very good method. Thanks for sharing.

Extremely easy to make and delicious. My daughter loves this one, especially the name, and gets excited whenever I make it because she knows that she gets to eat a tasty snack, but she also gets to “…help Daddy make Daddy’s Popcorn.”

This was sooooo good so easy. I was given a bag of popcorn kernels from a local food bank and was unsure how to use it without the tools or butters. Never made it on the stovetop. Then I found this recipe!! I made this in a rice pot being that’s what I had on hand with a lid and hey, It worked!!! So the recipe says we can season to our liking so I’ll say my ONLY changes was adding creole seasoning (instead of seasoning salt) and Garlic salt with parsley to the butter oil mixture as well as sprinkling ontop. The whole family couldn’t leave this delicious snack alone. Will make again, and again, and again… right now its 7:55am… is it too early to make another batch lol Delicious and Super Easy Recipe!!! Thanks #ThoseGilligansApprove

I like to make it Maryland style! Sprinkle with Old Bay after popping and tossing with a little extra melted butter, kosher salt, and fresh ground black pepper. Very tasty. Nothing beats stove top popcorn.

Best, easiest, most flavorful basic stovetop popcorn ever! Trust me…I never review recipes, but this is amazing! Even my pup wants a taste.

This was my first EVER try at DIY popcorn. I know now to let the oil heat a bit more, then add the margarine or butter. Mine browned a bit (not necessarily a bad thing) before I added the test kernels and the rest. I used the brown bag trick, tossed it in there with a tiny bit of salt. Less greasy than microwaved bags and MUCH tastier. I used 2T. Oil and 2T butter. Just a wonderful recipe and brought back memories of my grandma and grandpa popping corn – in this same pot, as it would happen. Thank you so much, John Gawecki!

Followed the recipe exactly and it was delicious!

Better than movie theater popcorn.

I’m embarrassed to say I had never made popcorn in a pot. This was easy and delicious! I’ve now made it several times and my family greatly enjoys it!
