Air Fryer Plantain Chips

  4.3 – 3 reviews  • Snack Chip Recipes

Using an air fryer to cook green plantains yields crisp, potato-like chips that are low in fat and calories. Depending on what you’re seeking, these chips can be either savory or sweet; use salt for savory or cinnamon-sugar for sweet.

Ingredients

  1. 1 green plantain
  2. avocado oil spray
  3. 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat an air fryer to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Cut both ends of plantain and score along the side through the skin only. Peel skin off and cut plantain in half. Peel into strips using a vegetable peeler.
  3. Spray the air fryer basket with avocado oil. Place plantain strips in the basket, making sure they do not touch. Spray top of plantain strips with oil.
  4. Cook in the preheated air fryer for 7 to 9 minutes. Use tongs to turn each strip over, and continue frying until crispy, an additional 3 to 5 minutes. Immediately sprinkle with salt.
  5. I have an air fryer oven, so I am able to see the air frying process. Keep a close watch on the chips, because they can easily burn.
  6. For sweet plantain chips, toss immediately with cinnamon-sugar after frying.

These turned out really good! I pretty much ate a batch while I fried the next! I used my mandolin and cut them in thin circles vs strips. Air fry time was about two minutes per side, definitely watch them. Had some with just salt and others with a spicy blend. Will make these again for sure.

Delicious! I used a Japanese Mandolin I purchased years ago. The recipe author is right. You really have to watch these. Most came out just right but some (in the same batch) came out a bit soft and some too crispy. I’m just beginning to use an air fryer and assume I’ll get better at this!
