We’ve been making this recipe for years. My family LOVES it and argues over who is having the leftovers.
I make french toast the way I normally do and fill with strawberry cream cheese and sliced bananas, then bake it as in the recipe and yummers.
I’ve had better. Will never make these make again. Good enough to have once.
My family is still raving about this recipe. I made it for my husband for his birthday and he LOVED it. The syrup is really easy to make, and it is good. In my opinion, when you make stuffed french toast, you should expect sweet. Every stuffed french toast I have ever had is sweet, so just a head’s up on that. I added about 1/2 cup more banana’s in the filling as well. Personal preference here. With the fresh berries on top, I added strawberries and banana’s! I must mention one thing, I did NOT add the powdered sugar to the top of it. This recipe is sweet enough without it, I can’t imagine having powdered sugar add to the sweetness. Otherwise, my family won’t let me go very long without making this again! Enjoy and happy cooking!
I made this without reading the comments first. I substituted over half the sugar with truvia, but still the same total combined amount. I reduced the syrup too much and got like a caramel once it cooled, so I had to add some water back. I followed everything else as written and did come up with about twice as much filling as needed. I sprinkled a little powdered sugar over the top for looks. Also decided I didn’t notice the chocolate chips much, and would leave them out next time. Still, it was great and I would make it again but maybe minus the syrup.
Loved this recipe. Was very easy to make. I added a half cup more bananas due to preference. I also used store bought syrup.
The overall concept is very good but I had to make considerable changes to the recipe based on my taste and reviewer comments. For the batter I only used 1/4 cup of sugar, I omitted the syrup completely, and for the filling I only used 4oz. of cream cheese, about 2T. apple juice (I didn’t have oj on hand,1/8 cup of powdered sugar, and 1/2 of a banana. The recipe as is appeared too sweet and by the comments I read it would have been too sweet to enjoy. I will make this recipe again but with my modifications, and this is the reasoning behind the two star rating.
I’m rating this dish overall, which is why I gave it three stars. The dish itself was excellent… But it was just too sweet. if I were to make it again I would nix the chocolate chips and probably not use the syrup! Hubby and I couldn’t even finish one piece without feeling the diabetes creeping in lol! So I give it a five for flavor but a one because you simply can’t enjoy it… So it’s a three.
I think this recipe deserves a five star rating it was wonderful. I changed it up a little to suit my taste but over all amazing. I used whipped cream instead if ice cream and chopped the bananas and put them on top with the whipped cream. I am normally not a fan of bananas but this recipe needs them to cut the sweetness a little. I have a three year old and she loved it. Great for children!!
Love the french toast.. Just got a good recipe here..
