Ingredients

  1. 4 chicken breasts
  2. 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  3. 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  4. 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  5. Salt and pepper, to taste
  6. 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  7. 1 onion
  8. 2 small garlic cloves
  9. 1 cup sour cream
  10. 1/2 cup chicken stock
  11. 1/4 chopped green onions, including green part

Instructions

  1. Clean chicken breasts and dry well. In a shallow baking dish, combine the flour, cayenne pepper, paprika, salt, and pepper. Dredge chicken breasts in flour mixture to coat. Shake off excess. In a large skillet heat 1/4-inch vegetable oil over medium heat. Add chicken and brown well, about 2 minutes on each side. Remove from pan and set aside. Pour excess oil from pan, leaving a thin layer. Add onions and garlic, saute, stirring occasionally, until translucent, about 3 to 5 minutes. In a bowl combine sour cream, chicken stock and green onions and mix well. Transfer chicken back to skillet, pour sour cream mixture over it. Bring to a simmer and cook, covered, until done, about 10 minutes.;

Badly written recipe, it doesn’t say what size the chicken breast needed to be.  There is no way a full skinless boneless chicken breast will cook fully being brown for 2 min on each side. Same with the onion, whole, diced, sliced?  The time it took the chicken to cook was double what the recipe said.  Also I added flour to the sour cream to thicken it a little.

Nothing special. I t was okay. I liked how zippy the sour cream made the sauce. I thought the onion and garlic were useless. I don’t think they added much flavor at all. I would probably make it again, but with modifications.

Try 1/2 cup buttermilk after adding the chicken stock. It adds the creamy gravy look/flavor without the overpowering taste of sour cream. I combined recipe and Tyler’s smothered porkchop recipe and turned out lovely. I did have to add more seasonings, however. Play around with it – its a good start.

Too much sour cream, it overpowers the recipe. I used chicken thighs instead and needed to add more chicken stock and seasonings to add flavor. Very bland and the sour cream didn’t help. Chicken was very tender and my husband loved it, so would make again with a few modifications. Added a little brown gravy mix for color.

The sour cream did throw me off a bit. But I gave it a go. I used seasoned salt instead of the individual salt/pepper/paprika/cayenne. Seasoned the chicken before dredging in the seasoned flower for added flavor. I used just under 1 cup of sour cream. Skipped the green onions (didn’t have any). Everyone enjoyed it.

Love Love Love the recipe, however, my group loves “spicy” so I doubled the cayenne pepper.
It was absolutely perfect.
I served this dish up with rice and yeast roles. YUMMY
This was our one day of the week to “be bad”.We loved our “be bad night”.

This dish was very bland. I even tried adding salt, pepper, and paprika to the sauce; still bland. Very easy and quick to make though!

I’ve made this several times for my family, and they always enjoy it. It’s a nice alternative to standard smothered chicken dishes. I use a little more seasoning in the flour than the recipe calls for, but we love it.
