Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 4 cups sliced peaches with juices
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup 2-percent or whole milk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Whipped cream or ice cream, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place the butter in a large casserole dish or cast-iron skillet and place in the oven to melt, 5 to 7 minutes. If the peaches are not juicy and sweet, sprinkle them with some of the sugar and set aside.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl. Add the remaining sugar, the milk and vanilla extract; whisk until evenly blended.
- Remove the dish from the oven and add the melted butter to the batter. Then, immediately pour the batter all at once back into the dish. Add the peaches and any juices into the center of the batter. Gently shake the dish to evenly distribute the peaches.
- Return to the oven and bake until the top is golden brown and a cake tester poked into the batter comes out clean, about 30 minutes. Serve hot, warm or at room temperature with freshly whipped cream or ice cream.

Reviews
Truly old-fashioned as it reminds me of the type of cobblers my Southern mother and grandmother made. Very delicious and buttery. The “Gently shake the dish” instruction doesn’t work very well, so I placed the peaches where they were needed. I added a few blueberries too. This is a keeper.
As per “Patti T”, I agree it was quick and easy. No electric beaters needed, so that’s a plus. I used a 12”diameter pan. Cobblers are as varied as stars in the sky. I’ve made them with Various fruits, milk or buttermilk, etc.. My husband loved this one, even stating that it was the best cobbler I made this summer.
This is super tasty, easy to whip up and was a big hit at my last cook out. I did extend the cooking time to about 40 minutes and I used a 13×9 glass pan since all the recipe suggested was a “large casserole dish”. When storing, don’t cover it tightly if it’s still warm as it steams the cake part making it into almost a bread pudding. Still tasty in my opinion! I did add a little bit of cinnamon only because I love peaches and cinnamon.
Simple and perfect
Loved the Cobbler part of the recipe. I substituted the Peaches part with the recipe for Sweet Strawberries Recipe. Turned out Great
I made this 7/4/2014 with nectarines and it was simple, easy, fast and delicious. I had to bake mine for closer to 45 minutes. I am planning on making this with apples, peaches, pears in the future!
