Ingredients
- 1 pound yukon gold potatoes
- Salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Pinch ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon whole grain Dijon mustard
- Freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Fill a large saucepan about halfway, with warm water. Bring to a simmer. Peel and slice potatoes, and add them to the simmering water. Add a few pinches of salt, increase the heat, and bring to a boil. Check the potatoes with a knife. If the knife has some resistance, continue simmering the potatoes until the knife comfortably slides through the potatoes. When the potatoes have cooked through about 15 minutes, drain them in a large colander. Add them back to the saucepan. To the saucepan, add the milk and butter, followed by a the nutmeg. Mash potatoes until smooth. Stir in Dijon mustard. Season with more salt and pepper, to taste.

Reviews
i always make these potatoes to go with steak and they are such a nice variation on regular old mashed potatoes. thank you!
My family all liked these potatoes. I did double the amounts as 1 pound didn’t sound like enough potatoes for my hearty eaters and I’m glad I did. Four of us devoured them with no problem. I do think I will reduce the amount of milk slightly the next time I make them. My husband liked the texture, but I thought they were a little too soupy.
My family LOVES mashed potatoes. This is an excellent change from the “norm”. Don’t let the nutmeg fool you…it’s a nice touch. A little sour cream is a nice touch as well.
These mashed potatoes were wonderful!! It was surprising!
I was leery about making mashed potatoes with Dijon, but they were delicious and went perfectly with the short ribs. Good job Danny!!
I’m not a mashed potato person, but I must say, I made these with the ribs and absolutely loved them. Very easy. Didnt add the nutmeg, but turned out fantastic. Thanks!
